C-90: Spring Evening

This is a mixtape I made for my best friend. I just heard the Neil Young song the other week and I was shocked at the fact that I actually loved a Neil Young song. It reminds me of sitting outside in the late springtime when it's still kind of warm. Just the guitar sound makes me think of the breeze on that kind of evening when you feel kind of sad that the sunny day is over but still happy because you get to sit outside without wearing a coat.

So the other songs are all songs that make me think of that. The sadness of a warm spring evening. That sounds incredibly twee but there you go. It's kind of a twee tape, and my friend is very twee. Does anyone know any other songs that would mix with this? I always make mixtapes by the mood the song puts me in, don't know if this is weird or not.

martha reeves and the vandellas - in my lonely room
cat power - free
steely dan - peg
beatles - here comes the sun
saturday looks good to me - meet me by the water (got this from ilm)

oh and when i first heard that blink 182 song I thought the way he pronounced head would RUIN IT FOREVER but actually i quite like it now. well, tolerate it anyway.

Also I hate the thrills as much as the next person but big sur totally reminds me of being on the beach. That might just be the video I suppose. It's a really sad song.

And Harvest Moon on a "spring" mix... nope, I have no response to that.

hey, that's how i hear it! It's more the evening part I guess. The guitar just sounds really whispery and warm to me.

is there a right and a wrong way to hear a song? have i just wilfully mis-interpreted it?

x-post spring, summer, where the two merge, you know what i'm talking about!. okay maybe you are all taking the spring thing too literally. or maybe i'm just an idiot.

no, kathryn, it's a nice mix, I'm just sayin'. "stephanie says" is perfect for this time of year...I first made out with my wife to that song 17 years ago this week!

This is the second awesome track listing I've seen on ILM today. Esoecially loving Cat Power and Britney.

oh okay, cool. Maybe I won't call it spring anything in case it confuses my friend. Actually I never write titles on my mix tapes/CDs, it seems kind of corny. I like it when other people do it but I could never really justify it to myself.

(thanks Lex! that britney song is wicked and it goes really well into the manitoba song (i think))

two months pass...
Get the album "Summer Son" by Yo La Tengo. This is all you need for summer evenings.
