OASIS frontman LIAM GALLAGHER is forming his own supergroup featuring former STONE ROSES guitarist JOHN SQUIRE and late BEATLE GEORGE HARRISON’s son DHANI.

The band are planning to start recording tracks later this year and expect to record an album for Christmas.

According to The Sun newspaper, the trio are now looking for other musicians to join the group.

Gallagher will be lead vocalist, while Squire and Harrison will play guitars.

Squire released his latest solo album ’Marshall’s House’ in February, while Harrison performed The Beatles’ classic ’While My Guitar Gently Weeps’ when his father was posthumously entered into the Rock ‘N’ Roll Hall Of Fame’ in March.

As previously reported on NME.COM, Oasis are set to go back into their own studio shortly to continue work on the follow-up to ’Heathen Chemistry’. Death In Vegas, who produced early sessions for the record, will not be producing.

Sonny A. (Keiko), Monday, 3 May 2004 22:09 (twenty-one years ago)

I am not the least bit curious about what this will sound like. And I'm not sure if that's because it's damned obvious what it will sound like, or if I honestly don't give a crap.

Barry Bruner (Barry Bruner), Monday, 3 May 2004 22:09 (twenty-one years ago)

If they can Macca on guitar and his wife to fulfill the Bez role, then I'd be impressed.

Barry Bruner (Barry Bruner), Monday, 3 May 2004 22:11 (twenty-one years ago)

i'll give them points if they can one of the non-jeff-lynne guys from elo. kelly groucutt, say.

fact checking cuz (fcc), Monday, 3 May 2004 22:13 (twenty-one years ago)

fact checking cuz (fcc), Monday, 3 May 2004 22:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Barry Bruner (Barry Bruner), Monday, 3 May 2004 22:15 (twenty-one years ago)

awesome. though i dunno what the implications of having liam gallagher as some kind of voltron-head would be..

chris andrews (fraew), Monday, 3 May 2004 22:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Those eyebrows are freaky enough without being fashioned from some kind of spiney metal.

ipsofacto (ipsofacto), Monday, 3 May 2004 22:58 (twenty-one years ago)

What the hell? Why are these decent chaps (well, and one stupid
fackin buggerer) submitting themselves to the derision of the world?
Oh shite, with my luck this band will go mega-bobo-platinum. If they
actually release an album, which is far from likely (phew).

Squirrel_Police (Squirrel_Police), Monday, 3 May 2004 23:16 (twenty-one years ago)

If they get Simon from Suede this would be really cool.

CRW (CRW), Monday, 3 May 2004 23:18 (twenty-one years ago)

tom cleveland (tom cleveland), Monday, 3 May 2004 23:20 (twenty-one years ago)

possibly also genetics, and a poor sense of style

the surface noise (electricsound), Monday, 3 May 2004 23:29 (twenty-one years ago)

i'll give them points if they can one of the non-jeff-lynne guys from elo. kelly groucutt, say.

Bev Bevan! He's a great drummer and he was in ELO, The Move, and Black Sabbath!

Elvis Telecom (Chris Barrus), Monday, 3 May 2004 23:34 (twenty-one years ago)

The only thing of note either of the Gallagher brothers ever released was "Wibbling Rivalry"

uh (eetface), Monday, 3 May 2004 23:58 (twenty-one years ago)

"IT'S ABOUT THE MUSIC. MUSIC. MUSIC. MUSIC. MUSIC. MUSIC."

As mentioned up there, Liam called Harrison senior "a fookin' wet old mushroom," or something similar, which obviously didn't anger the heritage enough to sever all future ties.

The more I think about it, the 97-98 era really sucked balls as regards popular music in the UK. Really, really sucked.

DJ Mencap (DJ Mencap), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 08:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Did youse ever hear the 'demo' Songbird, with Johnny Marr on guitar (it's on the DVD single).

Basically, it's the beatles' "Rain". But I like it (prob for that reason).

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 08:47 (twenty-one years ago)

I can think of no way that this will not = teh sux0r357

Pashmina (Pashmina), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 08:48 (twenty-one years ago)

OK, ways in which it might not suggher.

1) Dhani writes the songs.

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 08:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Pardon my ignorance but does Dhani have any non-genetic past form?

DJ Mencap (DJ Mencap), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 08:55 (twenty-one years ago)

He played guitar on the George Harrison RAH tribute night.

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 08:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Sick Nouthall (Nick Southall), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 08:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Don't forget the Lynch Mob 12" promo... it's all a "be careful what you wish for" moment innit...

DJ Mencap (DJ Mencap), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 10:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Hahahahaha, this is going to be so awful

NUXX (NUXX), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 11:32 (twenty-one years ago)

RINGO'S STILL ALIVE BAYBEE DO IT!

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 13:49 (twenty-one years ago)

I think the Harrison kid should take a cue from the Hipster Handbook and opt out of music, personally. He's always seemed pretty lost and arrhythmically strummy onstage. The thing that he did during the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ceremony (with Prince) reminded me of Julian Lennon's performance with Chuck Berry in Hail! Hail! Rock and Roll. :: cringe ::

maria b (maria b), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 14:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Dhani didn't sing though (or did he?)

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 14:49 (twenty-one years ago)

he was doing occasional harmonies, or at least it looked that way, with his mouth moving in the vicinity of a microphone.

fact checking cuz (fcc), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 14:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Ar, but not to the extent of trying to sing "Johnny b Goode" in a register too high...

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 14:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Game Over!

from NME again..

LIAM GALLAGHER 'SUPERGROUP' REPORTS DENIED

LIAM GALLAGHER will NOT be forming a supergroup with JOHN SQUIRE, it has emerged.

Reports in The Sun newspaper over the weekend suggested that the Oasis singer was teaming up with the former Stone Roses guitarist and Dhani Harrison, son of late Beatle George Harrison.

However, this morning (May 4), a spokesperson for Gallagher vehemently denied the rumours in a statement.

It read: "The welcome heat of Sunday's weather in London must have got to the editorial staff at The Sun newspaper, so much so that they dreamed up a bizarre story about Liam Gallagher forming a supergroup with John Squire."

"Liam is already in a supergroup called Oasis, and far from taking a break in London, as The Sun story would have us believe, he is busy and recording and mixing the next Oasis album, due for release later this year."

All better now?

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 15:06 (twenty-one years ago)

has ANY story that originally appeared in The Sun been right?

fact checking cuz (fcc), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 15:11 (twenty-one years ago)

That's RIGHT, Liam already is in a supergroup, I forgot.
