These are images of Bono in Portugal from last week, where they were shooting photos for the album art for their forthcoming record. Bono has had a lot of bad looks in the past, but this is a new low.

Robin Williams.

Transvestite.

Wanker.

Sick Nouthall (Nick Southall), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 10:53 (twenty-one years ago)

He really has this bizarre addiction to bad sunglasses.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 11:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Heavy-set Kato Kaelin (sic) (and I MEAN sic).

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 12:02 (twenty-one years ago)

He looks a head-bump away from playing an alien race on Star Trek.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 12:35 (twenty-one years ago)

MILES HUNT! STOURBRIDGE IS BACK!

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 12:37 (twenty-one years ago)

My God, look at his hand! Silver bullet through the heart - only way to finish the bugger off.

NickB (NickB), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 12:44 (twenty-one years ago)

I thought he resembles a younger Hef, actually. Must be the jacket.

Davlo (Davlo), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 12:45 (twenty-one years ago)

I can deal with the weird smoking jacket, and you've just go to expect the sunglasses at this point. I just don't understand the hair. Who is telling him that this looks good on him? Someone needs to tell him. He should just cut his hair very short again, like he did around Pop Mart. Give this man some dignity!

Matthew Perpetua (Matthew Perpetua), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 13:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Kevin Shields told him to grow it.

NickB (NickB), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 13:28 (twenty-one years ago)

The hair color/length/purple velour jacket/pink shades/mardi gras love beads combo is entirely problematic.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 13:47 (twenty-one years ago)

The black fox-hunting lapels don't help either...although maybe this is just a taster before unveiling U2's brand spankin' new GLAMTASTROPHY look.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 13:49 (twenty-one years ago)

The part that's long in the back is an attempt to distract from the hasty retreat it's beating in the front.

Phil Freeman (Phil Freeman), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 13:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Please note that he is also wearing tight black leather pants as part of that ensemble.

Matthew Perpetua (Matthew Perpetua), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 13:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Hahahahahahaha....noted, Matthew.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 13:52 (twenty-one years ago)

he looks kind of sad and lost

s1ocki (slutsky), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 13:54 (twenty-one years ago)

I can't stop looking at those pictures. Now I've become fascinated by the grey Old Navy v-neck t-shirt. I'm just trying to figure out the internal logic of this outfit/hairstyle combo.

Matthew Perpetua (Matthew Perpetua), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 13:56 (twenty-one years ago)

it is your zohar!

s1ocki (slutsky), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 13:58 (twenty-one years ago)

maybe he lost a bet with the edge

mark p (Mark P), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 14:00 (twenty-one years ago)

jaysus

mark p (Mark P), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 14:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Sadly, I identify with him in that pic. I can picture him trying out the jacket in the changing room, just a couple of days before the shot, going, "Hmm, not bad, not bad!....goes with the tint in my glasses, too...ah what the fuck" and off he goes with it, not taking it off for the next three days...then never putting it on again (well, then again, I guess Bono *would* put it on again, and again).

Collardio Gelatinous (collardio), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 14:04 (twenty-one years ago)

(well, then again, I guess Bono *would* put it on again, and again)

Yeah, that's exactly why I find this image somewhat troubling. People make bad fashion choices all of the time, but Bono has a habit of finding a look and making it his uniform for the entirety of an album's marketing cycle. Since this is the outfit he was wearing for the new album's sleeve art, it's a bad sign of what's to come, at least in terms of U2's visual representation.

Matthew Perpetua (Matthew Perpetua), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 14:10 (twenty-one years ago)

matthew, i find it heartening that this concerns you so much.

mark p (Mark P), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 15:04 (twenty-one years ago)

He really needs to remember to change out of his smoking jacket before leaving the house.

Barry Bruner (Barry Bruner), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 15:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Swooooooooooooop!

Steev (Steev), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 15:40 (twenty-one years ago)

bad looks...

eleki-san (eleki-san), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 18:08 (twenty-one years ago)

the hair's fine, the pants he just barely gets away with, the beads i'm not too sure are a good idea but there's nothing very WRONG with them either; the jacket + glasses HOOBOY. the leather trim is especially heinous.

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 20:37 (twenty-one years ago)

the suntan doesn't really go either.

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 20:39 (twenty-one years ago)

the Robin Williams likeness really is frightening. but if they were the same person it would at least mean a little less evil in the world.

Al (sitcom), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 21:20 (twenty-one years ago)

"He really has this bizarre addiction to bad sunglasses."

It's to cover up his cold, lifeless eyes.

latebloomer (latebloomer), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 21:34 (twenty-one years ago)

five years pass...

him doing that song in the bruno film is pretty wtf. and not in a good way. im guessing bono thought he was one step of his critics doing that but i cant really see how its big or clever or even funny.
