Taking Sides: "All the Things she Said" by TaTu Vs ANY My Bloody Valentine song

TaTu's brief spot in the limelight resulted in one of the finest slicest of pop ever. The infectious meow of "This is not enough" followed by the "uh uh" and the repetition of the chorus, I had this song swimming about my head for weeks. A great burst of pure pop.

My Bloody Valentine? What's the song by them that's unlistenable and goes: "Fzzzzzzt, brrrrrrritttt, buzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzkt, ploooink"? Oh yeah that's all of them.

TaTu, with their one hit, emerge victorious.

I pick "All the Things She Said" covered by MBV. With Kevin and Belinda sharing vocal duties, of course.

Barry Bruner (Barry Bruner), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 16:13 (twenty-one years ago)

best idea ever.

Felonious Drunk (Felcher), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 16:27 (twenty-one years ago)

We keep the video though.

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 16:28 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm purposely evading the question. There's the knee-jerk reaction, and then there's "All the Things She Said" which is such a damned good pop song.
Can we go back to discussing Britney vs Husker Du?

The Beatles are bigger than Jesus

I honestly never got why everyone loves that Tatu song. I similarly think MBV are on the overrated side but I'd much rather listen to them. The Tatu song was just not good. Its no Ignition Remix, no Crazy in Love.

djdee2005, Tuesday, 4 May 2004 17:14 (twenty-one years ago)

I like pretty much all of the Tatu singles I've heard (maybe three of them?). Never really listened to MBV.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 17:20 (twenty-one years ago)

I never understood why everyone loves Ignition Remix so much. It's a B+. Crazy in love is an A. The Tatu song is an A++. "Loveless" is an A++, but that's the whole album.
Attempting to NOT compare apples and oranges (which is defeating the purpose of these CRW threads, but whatever), if we take the most POP moment on "Loveless" (which has to be "When You Sleep"), then the battle lines are drawn.
Song-wise, that's a victory for "When You Sleep", although it's likely closer than you think. If you incorporate the Tatu video, the MBV margin of victory becomes razor thin, but a victory nonetheless.
I can't believe I've given this much thought to the problem.

Barry Bruner (Barry Bruner), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 17:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Never really listened to MBV.
What? How did you pass the ILM entrance exam? Moderator!!

Barry Bruner (Barry Bruner), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 17:24 (twenty-one years ago)

It was more of a "Do you listen to one more more of the above (please check as many as necessary): __My Bloody Valentine __ Jay-Z ___ Britney ___ Eminem ___Aphex Twin ___ Guns n' Roses"

Or something. Actually, I have hid my MBV ignorance for years, only to casually admit it now.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 17:36 (twenty-one years ago)

I've never heard a whole MBV song.

Phil Freeman (Phil Freeman), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 17:41 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd rather listen to MBV having a farting contest on a answering machine tape than suffer through a nanosecond of "All the Things She Said".

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 17:50 (twenty-one years ago)

I must make the Alex in NYC/Family Matters-esque sitcom for ABC happen.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 17:54 (twenty-one years ago)

I like watching cute girls make out.

shookout (shookout), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 18:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Me too. But their version of 'How Soon is Now?' is the worst piece of crap ever.

57 7th (calstars), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 18:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Worse than Snake River Conspiracy's and Love Spit Love's?

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 18:29 (twenty-one years ago)

"I like watching cute girls make out."

Who doesn't?

latebloomer (latebloomer), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 19:05 (twenty-one years ago)

I would like to make out with TATU with 'Loveless' playing in the background.

I'd also like to get Kevin Shields' thoughts on "All the Things She Said". I'm thinking he would like it, the sound is very dense.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 19:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Me, but I like watching two guys make out, which probably wouldn't do much for you.

moofman (moofman), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 19:33 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't mind watch two guys make out as long as at least one of them is a girl.

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 19:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Dan loves him his shemales.

Shemales aren't girls! Silly.

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 19:44 (twenty-one years ago)

"Me, but I like watching two guys make out, which probably wouldn't do much for you. "

You'd be surprised.

I'd love to see that T-shirt on a hairy 5XL belly. It'd really underline the point it makes

one year passes...
I pick "All the Things She Said" covered by MBV. With Kevin and Belinda sharing vocal duties, of course.

that would be, like, the most fantastic thing ever!

The Brainwasher (Twilight), Thursday, 4 August 2005 17:05 (twenty years ago)

their version of 'How Soon is Now?' is the worst piece of crap ever.

Yet Morrissey said it was better than the original.

daavid (daavid), Thursday, 4 August 2005 17:26 (twenty years ago)

I hate the acoustic guitar on this song.

I'm Hi, Jared Fogle (ex machina), Thursday, 4 August 2005 17:37 (twenty years ago)

When I saw MBV at the Ritz in Manchester, parts of the ceiling came down. TaTu who?
