Has anyone seen Matmos play live recently particularly with their Civil War material. I've enjoyed Soft Pink Truth playing live but figure the Matmos material is rather different

Who cares if this thread is two and a half years old, I saw Matmos Tonight, and honestly, I think it was easily one of the best live shows I've ever seen. Absolutely ridiculous in all good ways.

Thomas Mehlt (Tokyo Ghost Stories), Monday, 9 October 2006 05:49 (eighteen years ago)

I'm new to ILM, so I've just discovered this thread.
I saw them live in Italy back in october 2003, right in their Civil War tour.
It was amazing, one of the best live act I've ever seen in my whole life.

OMG THE DREWHAWK!

Saw them last night at the Triple Door... first time seeing them, so I had no idea what to expect, but it was great. The encore.. oh man... I'll never see "clicky house" the same ever again.

Sunday, free show at Easy Street Records in Lower Queen Anne.. will be totally different from Sat. night set... if you can easily see but miss this chance, you a choad. Ok, that was mean, but you'll be missing something. especially the DREWHAWK! :-D

I am going to be at Easy Street at 3 pm today because I am not a choad.

Question for Drew: if you guys get offered ATP vs the Fans, would you actually play it? I have too many bands I want to vote for, but have never seen Matmos and would be ecstatic if I could.

I thought I'd post this here, from the ILE thread.

Our myspace tends to list shows but we're getting really lazy about listing stuff and I don't like to bother the Brainwashed folks until we have major news.

Upcoming shows of note:

Oct 27 Soft Pink Truth show with Vice Cooler at the hExagon in Baltimore

Nov 21 Matmos show with Kronos Quartet and Terry Riley at Disney Hall in LA

Jan 16 Matmos show at SFMOMA in San Francisco with lots of cool people

and that's it for this fall/winter, lotta touring plans for later next year when I am on sabbatical and we finish and release our album with So Percussion and tour with them in the US and Europe but that's not fully worked out yet, just finishing mixing that album at the moment so it's too soon to spell things out.

OH, and sorry to momentarily hijack WDYLL

Matmos. With Kronos. And Riley. Come the fuck on! Take it to Europe! To the Netherlands, at least. Would love to see you guys perform in whatever formation so I'm rooting for those 'later next year' dates to occur somewhere nearby...

Has there been new Soft Pink Truth material in the works?

I honestly think seeing Matmos in 2006 may the best concert I've been to in my life, so please play Toronto again!

Nov 21 Matmos show with Kronos Quartet and Terry Riley at Disney Hall in LA

Need to get tickets for this...

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 15 October 2009 01:41 (fifteen years ago)

Get one for me too. And a plane ticket. If you please.

Or write about the show somewhere. That'd be appreciated.

Can Drew maybe tell a bit more about said show? How did it come about and what's the premise, if any?

Free (!) show at the SF MoMA last night was vrry sxxxy. Opening amorphous ambient sound-blogs morphed into surprisingly percussive click funk. And that was just the first 12 or so minutes. Thanks for coming, boys

The Macallan 18 Year, Sunday, 17 January 2010 17:13 (fifteen years ago)

wait THAT WAS FREE? a friend told me it was like $60 or something. fuck, totally would have gone.

And now my dick is where? Oh, this is too rich (the table is the table), Sunday, 17 January 2010 18:39 (fifteen years ago)

heard they ended their set with some rolling drum 'n bass!

Do you know what time you guys are supposed to play for your Toronto show tomorrow, I want to see if I can negotiate two events that night.

Nah, Todd Sines/Basic Soul Unit. Really, though, there is such a ridiculously stupidly disgustingly amazing wealth of stuff going on this weekend.

Saw them perform tonight WITH A RUNNING WASHING MACHINE mic'd up and beat upon and rubbed and it was one of the coolest things I've seen in forever. Was expecting something a little more slapdash, but it was beautifully put together. People were dancing! Don't know if this is a tour thing but it absolutely should be.

they should do surprise shows at laundromats imho

emil.y, Tuesday, 7 June 2016 20:14 (nine years ago)

wow, touring with the machine must be a challenge

socka flocka-jones (man alive), Tuesday, 7 June 2016 21:16 (nine years ago)

i saw them tonight. the percussion guy they have with them was excellent. the show was too short, and i dont think they went far enough with it on stage IMO. some really great moments, and it was often weirdly (and no doubt intentionally) sensual how they treated the machine, but i wanted to hear them get into more grooves with it.

StillAdvance, Tuesday, 7 June 2016 22:38 (nine years ago)

thanks for coming! we had fun playing tonight and the bass in that PA was pretty lush. Hope you dug Unica Zürn!

touring with a washing machine IS a challenge honestly- we blew three power transformers in Berghain before we found models butch enough to dish out the requisite power. And getting 30 gallons of water safely on and off stage in the midst of drawing serious electrical power isn't cute either. But we try.

the tune was space, Tuesday, 7 June 2016 23:28 (nine years ago)

v sad i couldn't make it tonight, you should do your next album and tour for washing machine too so i don't feel i've missed out on much.

the bass in oslo hackney rattles the building very nicely.

Had the album played last night at record club and it was great fun.

curmudgeon, Saturday, 9 September 2023 23:41 (two years ago)

It happened, I was there for the last hour or so while it was raining. The group were set up under a large overhang so they were protected and the staff put plastic bags over the speakers!
