The Drop Nineteens?

Hey all!

Just found this site, did a search for "Greg Ackell" and stumbled across this. Seen the names of so many bands I used to love here, so i think I'll be stopping by more.

Anyway I'm going through old songs at the mo, and The Drop Nineteens keep finding their way onto my playlist. I know what happened to Paula Kelley - but what happened to the rest?

Cheers

Welcome! This is one of those Good Questions -- they released National Coma and seemed to go 'poof,' I guess. I have to say I really did like the Hot Rod album.

I just picked up Delaware a month or so ago, mostly for the cover of "Angel".. some of it's pretty good, though I had the sense they didn't go far enough a lot of the time - like on the last track where there's a great sound going for about thirty seconds and then they just give up! argh.

They were just a touch too polite in the end, though they definitely had some moments. And Long Fin Killie's cover of "Angel" is spiffier.

Winona is one of my favorite songs.

drop 19s were awful, they had a gimmicky hit with winona then disappeared, thank goodness.

saw paula kelly making out with mat from revolver when i saw them live, it seemed about right, third tier shoegazers in love.

The Drop Nineteen's drummer, Pete Koeplin, is now in 2 bands. Kahoots and The Troubadours. Both Massachusetts bands. Don't know about the Troubadours but Kahoots info can be found here...

There is a fairly serviceable Drop Nineteens boot out there I like alot. I think if you google Vermontstress Sub Pop festival you can find it pretty easily. Also has sets from Velocity Girl and Codeine and others. Anyhoo, the live cuts made me wish I still had my copy of Delaware...

Delaware still holds up really well. I loved it when it came out...and still do. I never heard the later records, am I missing anything?

Thanks guys and girls - just listened to a couple of Kahoots songs, sound pretty mellow. I guess Greg Ackell has vanished from the face of the earth though!

This suddenly reminds me of another group. Does anyone remember Smashing Orange?
