...apparently due to a major hip pain. Anyone else have more info?

Darn it if this is true. I was planning on seeing them in a week!

Hip... hip... hip... hip... hip... hip... hip... hip... .... .... ....??!!!

MES' jackassishness gets less and less cute as the years go on.

adam (adam), Thursday, 6 May 2004 02:45 (twenty-one years ago)

So, he's to blame for this?

Tim Ellison, Thursday, 6 May 2004 02:48 (twenty-one years ago)

He always is! When they played New Orleans last year the show got delayed a day 'cause MES apparently wanted to take a plane from Atlanta vs drive and couldn't do this til the next day. Of course I had a ticket and was super excited and had personally pestered our local promoter dude to book the show and of course was working the next night and could not get out of it. So he took my twelve bucks (fucking House of Blues) and didn't even entertain me. Grr!

adam (adam), Thursday, 6 May 2004 02:52 (twenty-one years ago)

It says on the Fall web site that he's going to "issue a statement."

Tim Ellison, Thursday, 6 May 2004 02:56 (twenty-one years ago)

"Walking onto stage with crutches sucks ass. Also, motherfuckers be sayin' it has something to do with my addictions and shit, which pisses me off. Peace to the streets. Free ODB"
—Mark E. Smith, through a spokesman

Walking onto stage with crutches sucks ass

Actually, this is more true than you think. Apparently, his hip was so bad, he had to sit in a chair for the entire set at Maxwell's.

donut bitch (donut), Thursday, 6 May 2004 03:04 (twenty-one years ago)

(I'm listening to "In A Hole" 2CD right now, and just juxtaposing the enormous monstrous live sound of this to the sad cancellation and state of Mark E's recent tour)

donut bitch (donut), Thursday, 6 May 2004 03:05 (twenty-one years ago)

No I know, I had a thread about it a while back when I saw 'em - he sat behind a desk for his whole set here, and since you have to enter the stage at the Cradle down some stairs, his entrance was incredibly slow - I thought the whole thing was kinda cool though, esp. the desk

J0hn Darn1elle (J0hn Darn1elle), Thursday, 6 May 2004 03:06 (twenty-one years ago)

so the music was officecore?

uh (eetface), Thursday, 6 May 2004 03:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Dude looks pretty menacing sitting behind a desk screeching about not being appreciated.

ferg (Ferg), Thursday, 6 May 2004 03:21 (twenty-one years ago)

The Fall -- so hip it hurts.

spittle (spittle), Thursday, 6 May 2004 03:26 (twenty-one years ago)

That's a good one, spittle.

Here's the statement issued by M.E.S. (this according to the official Fall website):

"The Group / New York Agency + Tour Manager are too lazy to play. 50% refund to all ticket holders. M.E. Smith"

Tim Ellison, Monday, 10 May 2004 21:31 (twenty-one years ago)

wow

donut bitch (donut), Monday, 10 May 2004 22:18 (twenty-one years ago)

any bets on who will be in the next Fall lineup after this one? I thought Robert Pollard was bad.

donut bitch (donut), Monday, 10 May 2004 22:19 (twenty-one years ago)

What a fuck youconsolation to the fans that dared pre-buy tickets.

the fall vs. the chills - i believe the chills are still ahead, despite having a 3 year formation handicap and having had a steady line-up for almost 4 years now..

Pleasant Plains (Pleasant Plains), Monday, 10 May 2004 22:27 (twenty-one years ago)

I know a promoter who booked a Fall show that was cancelled just a few hours before--the official line was food poisoning, but the promoter told me there was some weird stuff happening at all the tour dates. Apparently some English fellow was coming to see the promoters ahead of when the tour arrived--he would pass himself off as the tour manager and ask for the money and then skip town before MES and company arrived. This didn't happen to my friend, but he said some others got suckered and it just added to the weirdness of the situation.

teeny (teeny), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 00:18 (twenty-one years ago)

It's the best ever excuse to cancel a tour.

jellybean (jellybean), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 00:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, at least we get a new Mark E. Smith font out of this. (Get to work, font hackers)
