Does he deserve the collective 'meh' and easy listening rep that he usually seems to get?

I've been listening to Red Light, Blue Light and Songs I Heard a fair amount lately. I wouldn't say I've ever been enamored with his voice (although I do like it), but I think the main appeal is in the bands he hires. I gotta give it up to him for giving New Orleans guys like Leroy Jones, Wendell Brunious, Shannon Powell, Craig Klein, Lucien Barbarin, etc. a good gig.

I once owned Lofty's Roach Souflee. Instrumental trio, kinds Monkish.

That Saturday Night Live episode where he did "It's Alright With Me" with the big band was hot shit.

Plus the kid can act. Triple-threat at least. Wonder if he can do the ol' soft shoe?

I hear he's a pretty damn good drummer too.

He is kind of a sucker for those slow tempos though.

good rich baritones in today's world aren't a dime a dozen like they used to be, so props to him.

The material on the When Harry Met Sally OMPS is very nice, as is much of 25. He's a very lively piano player that i appreciate most when only accompanied by his Sinatra-like croon. I don't care as much for the big band stuff, but it certainly appealed to a larger audience.

The tribute to his dad and, equally, his sister is real nice. "He is, They Are" on Red Light Blue Light.

he was good in that 'cheers' that time.

he was the Buble of his day wasn't he?

i have to credit him for getting me into jazz (mostly because I don't want to give that one to Kenny G), and i still think his playing on When Harry Met Sally smokes (BEST WINTER WONDERLAND EVER, period). Red Light Blue Light is kind of meh, but he's no sub-garden-variety / sub-John-Stevens crooner (ahem Buble). 25 has moments of stunning bite; check the vox on 'Do You Know What It Means To Miss New Orleans'... juicy. there's some worthy bits on We Are In Love, namely 'It's Alright With Me' hot brushwork. still my favorite versh of that song, been playing it his way since i was twelve, not stopping any time soon.

everything from 'Star Turtle' onwards can get fucked though

Buble's actually a pretty darned good singer.

skip prettyboy and search out his demented piano teacher: James Booker. "Black Night." "Baby Won't You please Come Home." "Junco Partner." "Let Them Talk." RIP JB

two years pass...
New Harry album (Oh My NOLA) is great. He sounds good on some gospel tunes.

seven years pass...

Spotted this on MeFi... Connick realizes audience is clapping on the 1 and 3's. What to do?! Insert one measure of 5/4 on the fly to get them on the 2 and 4s. Drummer waves an "alright!" and everything swings.

took me a while to get into it- there were some framing story gimmicks to be taken into account- but ended up really enjoying it. Band was killing for one thing, despite the absence of ILX0r Jordan.

Been awhile since I have seen ilxor Jordan’s band, or Connick. Was recently looking at a photo of 10 years old Connick in the history of New Orleans jazz fest boxset that recently came out

Ha, I regret not seeing him when he's come through in the past with the all-star New Orleans band. I don't think I ever saw him at Jazzfest, even. I've been playing a couple of times a year with Leroy Jones though, who played trumpet with him for years.
