Will they sound like Shania, Bryan or Def leppard?
Maybe there will be seperate mixes for each market.
It's sure gonna sound horrible.

THE DARKNESS have enlisted the help of a legendary rock producer for the follow-up to PERISSION TO LAND.

AC/DC producer Robert ‘Mutt’ Lange (the husband of Shania Twain) will work with the Lowestoft four-piece when they return to the studio, reports the BBC. The veteran has also worked with Bryan Adams, Def Leppard and Foreigner.

The Darkness have also received praise from Avril Lavigne, who claims that the band are her first choice for a collaboration.

"The Darkness are incredible," she gushed. "Their power is breathtaking and they are the one band in the world I now want to record with. I just can't stop singing their songs."

Rock Bastard, Thursday, 6 May 2004 18:54 (twenty-one years ago)

and ilx takes a second to stop masturbating at the thought...

doomie-x, Thursday, 6 May 2004 18:55 (twenty-one years ago)

I arch my eyebrows at Avril's quote.

If Mutt hogties and gags wossname who sings and then lets the rest of the band continue, he would already have improved them 100%.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 6 May 2004 18:56 (twenty-one years ago)

I finally heard this band for the first time the other day. I kinda like it. I like that one where dude sings all high-pitched.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 6 May 2004 19:02 (twenty-one years ago)

"that one"

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 6 May 2004 19:02 (twenty-one years ago)

;)

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 6 May 2004 19:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Will they sound like Shania, Bryan or Def leppard?

Shit, they ALREADY sound like Def Leppard. Listen to "Rock Rock Til you Drop" and then listen to the Darkness again.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Thursday, 6 May 2004 19:05 (twenty-one years ago)

I have lost a little respect for Avril.

jel -- (jel), Thursday, 6 May 2004 19:06 (twenty-one years ago)

I can't think of a more appropriate band for Lange to produce! I like that they want to go even more pop.

Matthew Perpetua (Matthew Perpetua), Thursday, 6 May 2004 19:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Where does this news come from? Link?

AC/DC producer Robert ‘Mutt’ Lange (the husband of Shania Twain) will work with the Lowestoft four-piece when they return to the studio, reports the BBC.

Is it on the BBC website?

mei (mei), Thursday, 6 May 2004 19:25 (twenty-one years ago)

I always get Mutt Lange and Bob Rock confused.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 6 May 2004 19:26 (twenty-one years ago)

It's probably the mullet.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 6 May 2004 19:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Sorry, i'm getting forgetful.

..for the follow-up to PERISSION TO LAND...

woah, so it actually was NME that spelt the album name wrong.. don't these dudes have copy editors or something?

chris andrews (fraew), Thursday, 6 May 2004 20:01 (twenty-one years ago)

I hope it sounds like a cross between AC/DC, Def Leppard, Shania, *and* Bryan Adams! Oh, and Queen. That would be really good. Really.

Josh in Chicago (Josh in Chicago), Thursday, 6 May 2004 20:29 (twenty-one years ago)

If Avril loves to rock so much, why does her new single make me fall asleep? (I'll probably regret this statement a month from now..)

Also I just made the connection that Shania Twain and Bryan Adams are both Canadian, and I find it interesting that Lange has achieved success with so few American bands.

THE DARKNESS CALL OUT FOR LANGE
**Light-hearted British band THE DARKNESS are taking their eighties-rock act onto new levels - they've asked DEF LEPPARD producer MUTT LANGE to make their new album.
**Even though Lange has been more recently associated with the mainstream country-pop music of his wife SHANIA TWAIN, the I BELIEVE IN A THING CALLED LOVE stars hope the producer's heavy rock roots will bring a sparkle to their second album.
**An insider says, "The boys really feel Mutt could make sure their second LP is even more successful than their debut. After all, Def Leppard were the eighties equivalents of THE BEATLES."

Pashmina (Pashmina), Monday, 10 May 2004 09:49 (twenty-one years ago)

hey enough of this def leppard hate as def leppard are GREBT! I have never seen the TV movie based on their career but it was described to me in depth a couple of weeks ago and clearly I must search this out.

needless to say the prospect of lange producing the darkness - and with any luck playing the darkness, if you know what i mean - is marginally more enticing than that of rachel goswell's first solo outing.

Marcello Carlin, Monday, 10 May 2004 10:10 (twenty-one years ago)

This is going to be absolutely amazing. Shania Twain's choruses are pretty much more metal than they are country, so it's not as if Mutt's been turned into a country writer/producer.

edward o (edwardo), Monday, 10 May 2004 10:16 (twenty-one years ago)

This concept scares the shit outta me. I hope Shania guests.

Sick Nouthall (Nick Southall), Monday, 10 May 2004 10:24 (twenty-one years ago)

and with any luck playing the darkness, if you know what i mean

Damn straight. It's the only answer.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 10 May 2004 12:00 (twenty-one years ago)

I dont know what you mean.

David Allen (David Allen), Monday, 10 May 2004 12:37 (twenty-one years ago)

PUPPETMASTER!

Mr Mime (Andrew Thames), Monday, 10 May 2004 12:53 (twenty-one years ago)

This has the potential to be the best thing ever. I suspect it won't actually turn out that way.

Ricardo (RickyT), Monday, 10 May 2004 12:57 (twenty-one years ago)

The good thing is, it'll take three years, and by the time it finally emerges the world will have totally forgotten the Darkness ever existed.

Phil Freeman (Phil Freeman), Monday, 10 May 2004 13:22 (twenty-one years ago)

All you h8ers have forgotten how to laugh. I just hope it won't take as long as 'Hysteria' to complete.

57 7th (calstars), Monday, 10 May 2004 13:28 (twenty-one years ago)

(The subtext is that most people have already forgotten Mutt Lange existed -- they know Shania, but they sure don't know him!)

I just hope it won't take as long as 'Hysteria' to complete.

Sorta depends on whether the drummer keeps his arm or not.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 10 May 2004 13:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Hahaha

Mr Mime (Andrew Thames), Monday, 10 May 2004 13:30 (twenty-one years ago)

You don't like the Darkness, jel?

sundar subramanian (sundar), Monday, 10 May 2004 14:17 (twenty-one years ago)

I was there (cue LCD) when Jel picked up a Tygers of Pan Tang CD, and soon he noted that all the Darkness were doing had already been done by them, and better! (Ergo every Darkness fan should get off their butts and get such a CD, but we've been down this road. ;-))

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 10 May 2004 14:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Do I get to be the one who tells Lucy Lurex about this?

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Monday, 10 May 2004 15:42 (twenty-one years ago)

I think she already knows? But if not, do the honors.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 10 May 2004 16:28 (twenty-one years ago)

this is only a rumour. the nme news story is total speculation.

mark p (Mark P), Monday, 10 May 2004 16:29 (twenty-one years ago)

BUT HOW CAN WE LIVE WITHOUT RUMORS?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 10 May 2004 16:33 (twenty-one years ago)

We just gotta kick at the Darkness 'til they bleed daylight, Ned.

Kim (Kim), Monday, 10 May 2004 23:04 (twenty-one years ago)

I've heard stranger.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 10 May 2004 23:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Wow, Rick Browde will be excited (see Metal Sludge)
