In its own way, more stomach-churning than the dicktar.

Can we feed Trey, Dave, Dweezil, and Lisa to some hungry lions? I'd pay money for that!

Elvis Telecom (Chris Barrus), Thursday, 6 May 2004 20:12 (twenty-one years ago)

I was going to say, "is it morally wrong to hope that some horrible and painful death awaits them there?"

The Huckle-Buck (Horace Mann), Thursday, 6 May 2004 20:13 (twenty-one years ago)

hello, perspective - Baobab on VH1!

Later, Trey teaches Orchestra Baobab Phish's "Bouncing Around the Room," originally a West-African inspired song

er. (ok, i not-so-secretly look forward to this)

The lunatics really have taken over the asylum.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 6 May 2004 20:55 (twenty-one years ago)

"Dave and Trey tour Dakar on a colorful city bus with local hip hop group Positive Black Soul"

Those Show Highlights are really something.

i saw this video on the "vh1 hits" channel today. dave matthews sucks so bad. there's a part where he starts singing along like a dipshit and the orchestra baobab guys just sort of one by one stop playing and look at him. eventually he (takes the hint?) shuts up and they start bringing their parts back in one by one and with the biggest dumbshit smile he starts scatting like a fucking fool. i know the guy's from s. africa and all but how can it be that someone with such apparently good intentions (i think) comes off as so clueless? the combination of his bizarre vocal stylings with his ridiculous cartoony grin and features make it seem like nothing less than total MOCKERY of the baobab guys, like the sort of crap vocalese high schoolers do to annoy the guys in the jazz ensemble. what a clown.

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Friday, 7 May 2004 10:56 (twenty-one years ago)

the two greatest threads on ILM-together for the first time!!!!!!
ps I totally thought this was gonna be a South Park thread-wishful thinking, as it does not read "Try and Matt Go To Africa"

Morley Timmons (Donna Brown), Friday, 7 May 2004 13:50 (twenty-one years ago)

It's about time someone showed the continent of africa what a true jam session is all about.

frankE (frankE), Friday, 7 May 2004 13:57 (twenty-one years ago)

trey came off as an earnest (ha), observant quiet weirdo. dave came off as an earnest, good-hearted, sharp gregarian. nothing particularly interesting came of the relationship, but it was all pretty genuine and nice. dakar looks amazing, and above all it was a great baobab commercial filled with songs from specialist in all styles.

the sort of crap vocalese high schoolers do to annoy the guys in the jazz ensemble. what a clown.

to me it was clear he was trying to sing his version of a baobab guitar part. the execution was typical dave matthews, and thus easy to find annoying, but i thought there was some real understanding of the music behind it.
