breezy hip hop

...i still have very mixed feelings about the term "breezy" but that's the word i keep coming back to when i think of the shit i've been wantin' to listen to since the sun finally came out. i guess breezy is like a song where the beat swings more than boom-baps, or straight apes a soul song for the chorus, or is all organs and strings...or all of the above. i'm not articulating this well, but here's what i mean:

cam'on/juelz/freezy zeekey - hey ma
little brother - for you
nas - k.i.s.s.i.n.g.
ice cube - it was a good day (remix)
push button objects/aesop - shut down
kanye - home
big pun - i'm not a player

anybody got any favorites along these lines? (i apologize for the weak definition of the term, but work with me here...)

minolta (minolta), Friday, 7 May 2004 13:24 (twenty-one years ago)

All the Outkast songs that come to mind immediately are NOT breezy at all..."BOB", "Rosa Parks", "Wheels of Steel", "Ms. Jackson", etc. They're all pretty heavy.

Oh wait, okay, "So Fresh So Clean" is k-breezy.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 7 May 2004 13:25 (twenty-one years ago)

'Big Pimpin'' is more sub breezy really, but it is entirely a summer jam. It's light and simple.

Dear Tribe, I'm sorry, how could I forget:

'Everything Is Fair', 'Butter', 'Show Business', 'Vibes and Stuff', 'Jazz (We Got)', 'What?', 'Award Tour', 'We Can Get Down', 'Oh My God', 'Jam', '1nce Again', 'Separate Together' and the mondo obvious 'Can I Kick It'?

Barima (Barima), Friday, 7 May 2004 13:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince - Summertime

scg, Friday, 7 May 2004 13:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Jazzy Jeff's production work on Jill Scott's album is definitely breezy also, although breezy with lots of flavor, like when the wind brings the aroma of your neighbor's barbeque over the fence.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 7 May 2004 13:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Mos Def - 'Love', 'Body Rock' with Q. Tip and Tash

Nas - 'Memory Lane'
