speaking of Samantha 7, I'd like to talk about another album which I'm almost in giddy disbelief of even existing:

perhaps Danny was belatedly encouraged by his appearance on Psyence Fiction via the Jacob's Ladder sample and has embarked on a music career.

he was on Carson Daly's show on NBC the other night, singing standards-y stuff with a jazzy backing band. his singing voice is as gruff and inexpressive as his speaking voice.

YOU ARE DISTURBING ME!

Paul Sorvino fancies himself an opera singer

Al's story means we have found the Anthony Quinn of our time (if you've never heard him 'sing,' you'll know what I mean -- or maybe gruffly speak is the answer, thus:

italian actors have to make albums, it's a SAG thing

i glanced at the top of new answers and somehow i read "Danny Aiello gets grimey"

Deniro can't be more than a few years away from tackling the Cole Porter songbook.

Al (sitcom), Friday, 7 May 2004 03:22 (twenty-one years ago)

has anyone heard joe pesci's album, where he sings in character as the dude from my cousin vinny? (presumably vinny)

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 7 May 2004 03:24 (twenty-one years ago)

oh my GOD yes, I can't believe I'd forgotten about it.

Al (sitcom), Friday, 7 May 2004 03:26 (twenty-one years ago)

the most amazing thing about "Vincent Laguardia Gambini Sings Just for You" is the fact that it came out in fucking 1998, a FULL SIX YEARS after the movie.

Al (sitcom), Friday, 7 May 2004 03:28 (twenty-one years ago)

i know!!

(actually the amazing thing is you remembered the title)

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 7 May 2004 03:40 (twenty-one years ago)

(please don't shatter my pleasant illusion by revealing you looked it up)

This is the second most disturbing piece of music trivia I've learned today, just behind learning about the existence of a Kimberley Locke album over on ILE.

"Michael Corleone says hello."

Surfing around during commercials, I saw Danny Aiello was hocking his record on Hannity & Combs last night.

earlnash, Saturday, 8 May 2004 01:27 (twenty-one years ago)

haha this album is hilarious. (yes, we listened to it at work.)

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Saturday, 8 May 2004 01:36 (twenty-one years ago)

it's like faux Tony Bennett with a 1/2-octave range and lush backing (or, yes)

gabbneb (gabbneb), Saturday, 8 May 2004 04:22 (twenty-one years ago)

during the aforementioned Carson Daly appearance, Aiello said something along lines of that the album is selling surprisingly well. whatever his definition of success is notwithstanding, I am curious how well-received this record is in circles that aren't judging it by its comedic value.

Al (sitcom), Saturday, 8 May 2004 04:38 (twenty-one years ago)

also, this record will at best only ever be the 2nd funniest thing Danny Aiello has been involved in, after 'Dellaventura'.

eight years pass...

I can't believe the video for his answer song to "Papa Don't Preach" isn't online; I know I saw it in the '80s.

six years pass...

Danny Aiello is best known for DO THE RIGHT THING, but for me his finest performance was as Tommy "Five-Tone" Messina, a singing cat burglar in HUDSON HAWK, a very bad comedy that nevertheless entertains. Farewell, Danny, and thanks. RIP. pic.twitter.com/TlK6hS4GOH
