The album HUNKPAPA by THROWING MUSES features, listed under other musicians, BERNIE WORRELL on keyboards. Is this the PARLIAMENT FUNKADELIC member, the one who invented synth bass and is generally considered a big deal? Or is it a nerdy college type Bernie Worrell? Or am I barking up the wrong tree entirely? Etc.

yes, it is the Bernie W (no relation, I think)

what's with the SPEKTRUM / EFENETTEE type SHOUTING pjm?

Jeff W (zebedee), Friday, 7 May 2004 11:54 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm having a STARRY SARAH day.

Do P-FUNK obsessives crave this album?

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Friday, 7 May 2004 12:08 (twenty-one years ago)

ahah ENFENETEE

cutty (mcutt), Friday, 7 May 2004 15:41 (twenty-one years ago)

most throwing muses obsessives don't even crave this album. although it has two or three really great songs.

Aw, that's not fair.

Super-Kate (kate), Friday, 7 May 2004 16:15 (twenty-one years ago)

isn't cottonmouth on hunkpapa? oh, how i love that song.

lauren (laurenp), Friday, 7 May 2004 16:16 (twenty-one years ago)

I can't remember any of the names of the songs on Hunkpapa but it's got some great tunes. "Too much mascara... runs in the dark" - is that the song you're talking about?

Super-Kate (kate), Friday, 7 May 2004 16:19 (twenty-one years ago)

oh, that's good as well. no, cottonmouth has the genius bit that goes "the more he likes me, the more i drink/i think the more i drink the more he likes me/i've got the shakes/i've got the shakes, here." kristin's voice is in maximum creepy whine mode.

lauren (laurenp), Friday, 7 May 2004 16:25 (twenty-one years ago)

cottonmouth isn't actually on hunkpapa, although it's from around then. i was thinking of mania, devil's roof and dragonhead.

fortunate hazel (f. hazel), Friday, 7 May 2004 16:38 (twenty-one years ago)

i have it on a mix, so i've always been confused as to where it came from. maybe dizzy is on hunkpapa? i really like that one, too.

lauren (laurenp), Friday, 7 May 2004 16:41 (twenty-one years ago)

cottonmouth is a b-side from the counting backwards single, and it's also on the curse (a live album with a great version of mania too).

fortunate hazel (f. hazel), Friday, 7 May 2004 16:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Wow. FWIW you might remember Bernie Worrell from such non-P-Funk projects as: Talking Heads, Praxis, and Black Jack Johnson Band. This though, I had no friggin IDEA.

Hi, I'm Bernie Worrell! You might remember me from such non-P-Funk projects as: Talking Heads, Praxis, and Black Jack Johnson Band. But today, I'm playing my most important role: funking up Kristen Hirsch!

Hunkpapa is an awesome record...with shitty production.

Cottonmouth seconded, real creepy...I'll have to dig out that 12"

ddb, Friday, 7 May 2004 18:14 (twenty-one years ago)
