Oh lordy, troubles in mind.

Sick Nouthall (Nick Southall), Friday, 7 May 2004 12:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, I heared it on the radio this morn. Basically its the original, with some commentary bits about "Here comes Beckham, he shoots and its a goal" stuff over the top of it.

quit yer bellyachin ye scurvey dogs!
I remember like twas yesterday the lighthouse family did provide the official england anthem for a euro or world cup.
and shivver me timbers if this old mariner dont recall China Black doin the song for ye land lubbers rugby world cup one time.
But in these waters, so murky, one ship strikes more fear into the hearts of men than any other. With a brace of thirty cannons upon each of her pitch black flanks and a mercilesly commercial crew, the lady Anestasia plundered the last world cup, and only I remained to tell the tale.

the song is already synonomous with Everton so it's a terrible idea

stevem (blueski), Friday, 7 May 2004 13:24 (twenty-one years ago)

There were something like 20 football records, last time out. Of which, maybe two made the charts a bit. I guess there won't be nearly as many this time...

Although, the ones I know about be:
1) This farm one
2) Blazin' squad
3) the XFM one

(That XFM compo, I only heared about it the day before, and managed to 'pen' one, but had not enough time to do it before closing...)

pah what they doing using that!, as already pointed out its linked to us blue boys!, although The Farm were reds - so no idea why they did that in the first place!

Is it called "I'd like to **** in your hair"?

One would think they could at least have an original, new composition. Or re-do something like "Fitball Crazy" or "We're Gonna Get It Right This Time".

I think actually it could have been a worse choice than "All Together Now". What one would like is the inoffesiveness and right-on aspect of this to be combined with a bit of the old cliched (or actually heartfelt, as the '82 one sounds) football song flavour. I mean, face it: can there easily be a great, credible song about football. "3 Lions" has been by far the best effort, "World in Motion" was basically a typical New Order song musically (bit like "True Faith"?) and a surprising choice that worked well - but was hardly that 'football'-related, "at the end of the day". :)

I wish Bill Drummond would have got his Scotland '98 song off the ground; would have surely treaded a line between genius, folly and deconstructionism. ;)
