Brett Anderson's first solo song as such surfaces

So, probably nobody cares but me and a yapping Scottish puppy which needs a newspaper thwack every so often, but listen in if you'd like, thanks to SuedeStation, which is hosting the four song set he did as broadcast on Danish radio today. Called "Love is Dead," it's string-laden, it's mournful, he's in very good voice, it's pretty damned lovely. I'll even allow the 'plastic people' lyric cause this is actually not a bad depiction of what depression can be like.

(Also, the slow orchestral take on "Trash" is an unexpected treat, with him singing in a far lower register than he normally does for the song.)

I can't download it, is this just a trick because you're not a nice person?

Brett Anderson is still great.

This girl got really mad at me for telling her she looked like Brett Anderson. I guess I could've just as easily easily said she looked like Justine from Elastica but I was in a snarky mood.
I still listen to the first Suede album a lot.

I love "Trash" with my heart & soul but giving it an "adult"/"mature" reading is really not the greatest idea in the world i.e. that sucked donkeys

I totally read the first post of this thinking it was about Bret Michaels in light of the recent Poison thread.

best new song with his voice on since 'coming up' era? could be!

I've just downloaded "Love is Dead" and after two listens I feel really disppointed. Apparently Bernard co-wrote this one, but Jesus Brett - your lyrics! Write something new. Didn't you learn anything from the bad reception of the last two Suede albums? It's the same old "Plastic People"/ "Walking down the lonely Street"/ "No one on the phone" nonsense.

Aycarumba - what was the point of splitting up Suede if you're just going to bash out a poor cousin of Lost in TV? And why are you playing for Monarchs anyway? I thought you were a socialist.

And I'd rather be a yapping Scottish puppy than a coward with bad body odour. Twat.

CRW (CRW), Saturday, 8 May 2004 16:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Big twat in fact.

CRW (CRW), Saturday, 8 May 2004 16:27 (twenty-one years ago)

It's a limp and lame song made of rehashed, reheated McCartneyisms. The chords are boring and the lyrics embarrassing. It sounds terribly 90s and Britpoppy. And I can't agree that he's in good voice either, a lot of the notes are wibbly and miss their intended targets.

Momus (Momus), Saturday, 8 May 2004 16:27 (twenty-one years ago)

I agree. It's not very special.

CRW (CRW), Saturday, 8 May 2004 16:29 (twenty-one years ago)

But Brett is still cool.
