The saddest thread ever.

Believe it or not: player pianos are not what they seem. There is actually a little man inside hammering away at the strings. I learned this in 1983 on a field trip to a museum located on the eastern seaboard of the U.S. My friend, who was something of a "bad-ass" at the time, loitered behind our tour group, and did a little firsthand investigation. The tiny man inside apparently had a wicked rye whiskey habit, as well as a substantial collection of cartoon pr0n flipbooks.
There was also a mechanical harpsichord in the same museum, but we, or my badass friend, rather, didn't have a chance to investigate the down'n'dirty truths behind that apparatus. Suffice it to say, that, said museum still exists, and I have every intention of seeking out that tiny plucker at some point.

Maybe he's a relative of the 12 inch pianist?
― Tuomas, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 11:10 (seventeen years ago)
I'm just saying-- there's only one man, for 88 strings to be hammering down! Mad respect! It's like playing 5 dozen "Whack-a-Mole" games at one time!

88 is a lot

now that summer is here again, perhaps, we could turn our attention, once again, to this matter

now that five years have passed, perhaps, we could turn our attention, once again, to this matter

Aus Segfried's album has a spooky mechanical rendition of ave maria.
My favorite tacked piano record features Meade Lux Lewis playing in a boppish mode

The only reason why Scott Seward didnt post about those Gay 90s Village records all these years was for fear of ruining this thread's conceptual purity
