How do you turn on the creativity? I think we all know what it's like to sit with our instrument and wish
we could find a good idea. Of course I can always "wet my whistle" or puff a little brain
enhancer, but I want to create far more than I want to indulge. Besides, that feels like a crutch.
Here's my method: I sit down with the guitar, and without playing a note,
I close my self and visualize myself putting a CD in a CD player and pressing play. The CD is something
like "The Beatles: The Forgotten Tapes" or "Syd Barrett: The Lost Sessions." Then I just listen for
those first few lines and quickly write them down. Usually that's enough to get me started, although
if necessary I'll "tune back in" to the imaginary album. I don't endorse this method for anyone else,
but it works great for me.

i've done the same thing, but usually visualize a scene or something. like.. you're in a turbolift going up the the top level of an office building. its the year 2130. you are on your way to the biggest battle of your life. you must use your magic powers to defeat the evil Lord Shorgorath. you remain calm, knowing your mental focus must be at its utmost then BAM THE DOOR OPENS. YOUR FACE TO FACE. TIME TO DO BATTLE TO SAVE THE HUMAN RACE.
shit. i gotta lay off the prog rock for a while

Are we writing a song called "I take it back" here? Like the chorus...
MY suggestion for getting over writers block or whatever, is to get a big pad, and write everything that comes into your head. Any old toffee. Then, eventually, the flow is so, and will go!
