Doobies by a country mile.

Broheems (diamond), Saturday, 8 May 2004 23:52 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd prefer a 'doobie' to chemicals, so DB win.

The Doobies are proven to be inferior to the following sets of Brothers:

Chemical
Isley
Chambers
Allman
Jungle
Johnson
Dust
Outhere

Isley
Allman
Jungle

agree with these

I much prefer the Doobies to the McMullens, I'll give 'em that much.

Nate OTM, and these threads seem to be inspired more by crw than dave q, what's up with that?

stevem (blueski), Sunday, 9 May 2004 13:20 (twenty-one years ago)

'Long Train running' and 'What A Fool Believes' are great tho

stevem (blueski), Sunday, 9 May 2004 13:20 (twenty-one years ago)

I like both. Where's my cookie?

Clarke B. (Clarke B.), Sunday, 9 May 2004 15:34 (twenty-one years ago)

That slight bit of delay on the lead riff in "China Grove" is perfect.

Clarke B. (Clarke B.), Sunday, 9 May 2004 15:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Perhaps complicating matters, Come With Us does sound pretty great on a doobie.

sundar subramanian (sundar), Sunday, 9 May 2004 18:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Doobies.

WHOA OH OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH, LISTEN TO THE MUSIC.

Plus, Michael McDonald (when he joined the band) and his unique voice supplied comedic fodder for many imitators.

(what was he thinking doing that Motown album, though, his voice doesn't fit that at all.)

uh (eetface), Sunday, 9 May 2004 18:14 (twenty-one years ago)

"Isley"

Yea, but they've drifted into complete self-parody nowadays.

"Contagious", bwahahahahaha.

although I'm really interested in learning more about the Harvest for the World period

uh (eetface), Sunday, 9 May 2004 18:15 (twenty-one years ago)

I say Doobies.

points for 'What A Fool Believes'. I like Michael McDonald because of all the great backup he did for Steely Dan.

Is the Motown album really bad?

derrick (derrick), Sunday, 9 May 2004 19:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Nah, it's not really bad, it just sounds awkward, from the tracks I've heard. Like a tired old man singing spirited Motown music.

uh (eetface), Sunday, 9 May 2004 19:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Chemical Brothers. But at least the Doobies were cool enough to appear on "What'sHappening!!" (Rerun was caught with a tape recorder taping a live bootleg, remember.) And the DBs woulda ranked higher if not for the presence of one MM (= Michael McDonald = Mush Mouth = Mojo Milk = etc), about whom it's been written:

This marblemouth motherfucker is worthless and always has been. The most insufferable white-soul singer imaginable and the main reason I've never dared to buy a Doobie Brothers LP. Plus he worked with Christopher Cross and probably inspired Rick Astley. Reminds me of Wilford Brimley crossbred with Mushmouth, from Fat Albert & the Cosby Kids. I guess you could say that I'm not a huge fan.

BTW, Nate: If you ask me, The Allmans, Chambers and Isley Brothers are nothing if not "classic rock."
