why?!

$corpium ($corpium), Sunday, 9 May 2004 23:15 (twenty-one years ago)

the Fixx
Fish-era Marillion
vintage Yes

why?

The Fixx - They're tepid 80's new wave at its most antiseptic, but I love'em.
Marillion - Bombastic prog-offspring, but I cannot deny Script for a Jester's Tear
Yes - Do I really need to cite reasons to be embarassed?

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Sunday, 9 May 2004 23:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Fish-era Marillion and Yes seconded. They are worthless after Fish left, tho.

For more neo-prog fun, I have a very soft spot for the first couple of IQ albums.

And I'm the only one that likes Pink, aren't I?

noodle vague (noodle vague), Sunday, 9 May 2004 23:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes - Do I really need to cite reasons to be embarassed?

Yes. :)

Joe (Joe), Sunday, 9 May 2004 23:23 (twenty-one years ago)

New Radicals. mostly cuz the lead vocalist seemed like an ass from his interviews, and then their song was on that one commercial

uh (eetface), Sunday, 9 May 2004 23:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Jan Garbarek, I think. I can't work out if he's cool or not.

noodle vague (noodle vague), Sunday, 9 May 2004 23:27 (twenty-one years ago)

I thought Yes were cool now?

Patrick Kinghorn, Sunday, 9 May 2004 23:29 (twenty-one years ago)

I would venture to say that any hipness showered upon Yes is ironic at best.

Apoptygma Berzerk
Lasgo
Ian Van Dahl
Assemblage 23
VNV Nation
KMFDM
Skinny Puppy

Lasgo and Ian Van Dahl are on account of negative influence from former significant others. The rest is my own guilty pleasure.

EBM 4eva. :(

Atnevon (Atnevon), Sunday, 9 May 2004 23:41 (twenty-one years ago)

cannibal corpse
cradle of filth

Eisbär (llamasfur), Sunday, 9 May 2004 23:44 (twenty-one years ago)

b/c they are the most cartoonish examples of what is already a pretty cartoonish genre.

Eisbär (llamasfur), Sunday, 9 May 2004 23:45 (twenty-one years ago)

I still listen to my Kissing The Pink records, but they are probably rilly hip in Brooklyn by now. When I was 16 or 17 listening to "Big Man Restless" was understandable, but when you are 35...

I would probably listen to a KTP album too if I had one.

But really, "shame" is a strong word.

scott seward (scott seward), Sunday, 9 May 2004 23:46 (twenty-one years ago)

You know what made me cringe a year or so ago: Playing the first Blue Nile album and when the dude gets to the part where he yells, "Do I love you, YES, I love you..." and remembering how I used to swoon when I played that record when it came out. How did I not end up a gay 35 year old man? It's a mystery.

scott seward (scott seward), Sunday, 9 May 2004 23:49 (twenty-one years ago)

eh, I don't consider death metal a cartoonish genre. depends on which bands you consider.

Yea, there are the groups like CC, but groups like Cryptopsy and Suffocation, or Morbid Angel, Immolation, Vital Remains, Vader, Nile, or groups like that to be "cartoonish" per se. guess it depends on the criteria for cartoonish

"Yea, there are the groups like CC, but groups like Cryptopsy and Suffocation, or Morbid Angel, Immolation, Vital Remains, Vader, Nile, or groups like that to be "cartoonish" per se. guess it depends on the criteria for cartoonish "

I swear, I really should stop beginning one thought and then changing my mind as to how I want to word the sentence.

That should read "but I don't consider groups like Cryptopsy"....

uh (eetface), Sunday, 9 May 2004 23:59 (twenty-one years ago)

shame is for suckers.

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Monday, 10 May 2004 00:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Electric Light Orchestra
Paul McCartney
Kylie Minogue

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Monday, 10 May 2004 00:20 (twenty-one years ago)

On second thought, I'm sure why I feel shame. Please ignore.

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Monday, 10 May 2004 00:27 (twenty-one years ago)

shame is for suckers.

Thank you, I was hoping someone would say it before I would!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 10 May 2004 00:28 (twenty-one years ago)

haha i seriously wonder how many times on how many threads i've had to say that at this point

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Monday, 10 May 2004 00:29 (twenty-one years ago)

the stupidity of "guilty pleasures" and/or "ironic listening" should really be in the faq at this point

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Monday, 10 May 2004 00:31 (twenty-one years ago)

bright eyes, and then pretty much everything alex NYC mentioned. and the bangles.

kyle (akmonday), Monday, 10 May 2004 00:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Muse. I'm completely ashamed that I like this band. I know why, but I'm not telling.

scottontharox (scottkundla), Monday, 10 May 2004 00:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Guilt and shame may be stupid. Still doesn't change that it's there.

David Allen (David Allen), Monday, 10 May 2004 00:50 (twenty-one years ago)

All of them.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Monday, 10 May 2004 00:51 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm not ashamed of any music. Ashamed of liking Paul McCartney or ELO? Why? What's the point? Life's too short to worry about that shit. I just don't get that way of thinking at all. But hey, the other night I listened to Flat As A Pancake by Head East and loved every minute of it.

Broheems (diamond), Monday, 10 May 2004 00:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Skrewdriver

Mr Mime (Andrew Thames), Monday, 10 May 2004 00:56 (twenty-one years ago)

(I don't really like Skrewdriver, and I swoon around to the Blue Nile all the time. Hey Scott we should date)

Mr Mime (Andrew Thames), Monday, 10 May 2004 00:57 (twenty-one years ago)

I love all Chiswick era Skrewdriver. I'm not ashamed of that in the slightest. There is no objectionable content on those records anyway.

Broheems (diamond), Monday, 10 May 2004 00:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Mr. Mime, pick me up at 8pm. I'm gonna make myself look pretty...

scottontharox (scottkundla), Monday, 10 May 2004 01:02 (twenty-one years ago)

put a "d" on the end of the word "shame" in the thread and we have a whole new ballgame. (in that case: Loverboy.)

Nate in ST.P (natedetritus), Monday, 10 May 2004 01:40 (twenty-one years ago)

shame meaning other people always try to punk you for liking them. but you never get that, strongo, do you, bcs you wear yr headphones to the grocery store!

$corpium ($corpium), Monday, 10 May 2004 03:49 (twenty-one years ago)

YES. I'm (finally) seeing them on Thursday and, along with Prince in July, they make this my fave summer for live sets by people I LOVE in years. I'm probably too old to be embarrased at this point.

Jay Vee (Manon_70), Monday, 10 May 2004 04:11 (twenty-one years ago)

i think i'm supposed to be ashamed of liking linkin park..but i'm not..i am ashamed that i used to like nsync..yea i know..and i still like justin timberlake..that voice..that butt.sigh. and i actually like 2 songs by rod stewart.don't shoot.have i told you lately that i love you is so sweet. and reason to believe is cute and uplifting.i also like josh groban ...ok i feel better now

jubietube, Monday, 10 May 2004 04:23 (twenty-one years ago)

I love Pink Floyd.

shookout (shookout), Monday, 10 May 2004 04:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, this isn't really a proper answer, because if I feel shame, I always know EXACTLY why. Case in point...

The Tea Party: They're one-dimensional, they're repetitive, they're as pretentious as anything I've ever heard, they epitomize style-over-substance and they have ABSOLUTELY no sense of humour. (Unless their entire discography and/or mere existence is an extremely subtle, elaborate inside joke, which I doubt.) But no rock band I've heard in the last decade has created more sonically breathtaking, bigger headphones-ready sounds. Absolute ear-candy (a term I know Alex hates!), and the true embodiment of so much of what was great (and some of what was lousy) about Led Zeppelin. Plus, my low opinion of most Canadian groups requires that I patriotically appreciate the IMNSHO great ones all the more!

Myonga Von Bontee (Myonga Von Bontee), Monday, 10 May 2004 04:43 (twenty-one years ago)

what's wrong with liking pink floyd? seriously one the greatest bands ever..wish you were here..my alltime favorite song.but all their stuff is good
