Not sure if this is in any way earth shattering, really, but I like the picture.

Prince Charles listened to them rehearse at the University of Westminster, and said: "I'm not very familiar with the urban scene but I do like some of the music."
He's like the british John Kerry etc

Sym (shmuel), Monday, 10 May 2004 06:09 (twenty-one years ago)

"I used to be very critical of urban scenes but i've warmed to the Erotic Gherkin"

"Yeeh we all love Lil Kim f'real"

"One, um, is finding oneself, er, um, quite enjoying, um, The Goldie Looking Chain. Um, yes. 'I amz zaz robotz', um, yes."

Sick Nouthall (Nick Southall), Monday, 10 May 2004 10:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Thank fuck: I though this was a CRW "taking sides".

Robbie Lumsden (Wallace Stevens HQ), Monday, 10 May 2004 10:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Who is that with Blair and Cherie? Siegfried and the New Roy? Or the Neu Roy, to be precise.

Dadaismus (Dada), Monday, 10 May 2004 10:49 (twenty-one years ago)

And judging by the look on his face, where is that big guy's hand?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 10 May 2004 10:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Watch out there's a white tiger behind you!

Dadaismus (Dada), Monday, 10 May 2004 10:55 (twenty-one years ago)

it's two of Bad Company, i think.

anyone remember Charles cringing his way through Michael Jackson at Wembley sixteen years ago?

um (robin carmody), Monday, 10 May 2004 12:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Was that when he was banned from doing "Dirty Diana"?

(and Michael Jackson didn't either)

mark grout (mark grout), Monday, 10 May 2004 12:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Ah, I thought it might be Paul Rogers on the right as I'd heard he'd turned into a wizened 900 year old Chinaman with orange skin

Dadaismus (Dada), Monday, 10 May 2004 12:24 (twenty-one years ago)

i thought it was 2/3 of spinal tap. and since cherie blair looks vaguely like nigel, maybe it's in fact the whole band.

fact checking cuz (fcc), Monday, 10 May 2004 20:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Dada, I done the Siegfried and Roy joke the other day. I demand a repeat fee.

noodle vague (noodle vague), Monday, 10 May 2004 20:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Man, I love Prince Charles...
We'll (hopefully) have a King who has:

-Mixed decks wearing a kappa hat (or pretended to, which is better)
-Re-enacted a scene from Full Monty in a PO queue
-Made a funny with Jay-Z

I can't wait for the Queen to die...

Kevin Gilchrist (Mr Fusion), Monday, 10 May 2004 20:54 (twenty-one years ago)

jay z looks much more like carlton palmer than usual in that photo

robin (robin), Monday, 10 May 2004 21:27 (twenty-one years ago)

It seems a sad and cruel day for lady Britain that the monarchy is so degraded by this oaf Jay-Z. He is a man who is devoid of honour, wit or panache. There was a time when the very presence of such a character at the royal court would have been met with a flogging, decisive and true.

These "rappers" are less minstrels than ministers of hate and violence.

Jean-Luc (Jean-Luc), Monday, 10 May 2004 21:41 (twenty-one years ago)

And their appetite for money would disgust even the richest sultan.

Jean-Luc (Jean-Luc), Monday, 10 May 2004 21:42 (twenty-one years ago)

five years pass...

tbh not a little schadenfreude @ lord rogers on this one.

FREE DOM AND ETHAN (special guest stars mark bronson), Tuesday, 16 June 2009 10:37 (sixteen years ago)

Lord Rogers, 75, has now attacked the Prince, claiming that he"single-handedly destroyed the project" [...]

In particular, Lord Rogers said he objected to the appointment of the Prince's Foundation for the Built Environment, a charity of which the Prince is president, to help design an alternative scheme at Chelsea Barracks.

Lord Rogers added: "Bringing in the foundation, his own boys if you like, is unbelievably questionable. I absolutely don't think this is acceptable. It is directly self-serving and is unconstitutional." [...]

Lord Rogers said: "The prince always goes round the back to wield his influence, using phone calls or in the case of the Chelsea barracks, a private letter.

"It is an abuse of power because he is not willing to debate. He has made his representations two and a half years late and anyone but him would have been shown the door.

fuck prince charles

man saves ducklings from (ledge), Tuesday, 16 June 2009 10:48 (sixteen years ago)

yeah... but fuck lord rogers too. this is a case of two powerful, undemocratic institutions (developers v prince charles) going up against each other. lord rogers gave up the right to complain about behind-closed-doors dealmaking and influence-mongering the day he accepted a peerage, im afraid.

FREE DOM AND ETHAN (special guest stars mark bronson), Tuesday, 16 June 2009 10:50 (sixteen years ago)

Spoken like a man with his knighthood already safe.

Mark G, Tuesday, 16 June 2009 10:51 (sixteen years ago)

Xpost, obv, I'm not referring to MBrons there.

Mark G, Tuesday, 16 June 2009 10:52 (sixteen years ago)

undemocratic developers? whatevs, but the plans were going to go before a committee of publicly elected officials.

man saves ducklings from (ledge), Tuesday, 16 June 2009 10:58 (sixteen years ago)

always bulwark against the developers, those public officials!

FREE DOM AND ETHAN (special guest stars mark bronson), Tuesday, 16 June 2009 11:09 (sixteen years ago)

yeah you're right, all these decisions should be made by whoever is closest to the middle-eastern royal family of choice.

man saves ducklings from (ledge), Tuesday, 16 June 2009 11:15 (sixteen years ago)

this is a case of two powerful, undemocratic institutions (developers v prince charles) going up against each other.

FREE DOM AND ETHAN (special guest stars mark bronson), Tuesday, 16 June 2009 11:19 (sixteen years ago)

you have to be kind of blinkered to think of developers as a hard-done-by group in society. over the last decade they've been given the keys to the kingdom, part and parcel of the bubble.

FREE DOM AND ETHAN (special guest stars mark bronson), Tuesday, 16 June 2009 11:20 (sixteen years ago)

yeah you're right, all these decisions should be made by whoever is closest to the middle-eastern royal family of choice.
