Advertorial hijacking extraordinaire!

I've only heard 'Ballad of the Boot Boys' and one other track. I thought they were a bit grim. Reminded me of Gene in some terrible way. I don't think anyone should write a song called 'Ballad of the Boot Boys'.

Tompaulin have made it bigtime - even TESCO sell their album!

twee fey retro melodic guitar pop is not my bag - but I was surprised that even Tesco.com - Music Warehouse are selling the album (from a quick check on easyvalue.com price comparision website) even if it sez it is out of stock - details @ tesco : tompaulin - the town and the city for £9.78 excluding Postage & package that is something katie g can tell her mum.

[Shopping tip for Brits - it seems that Tesco are having a pay no VAT promotion (Price reduction is equivalent to VAT) on all CDs at the mo (so all CDS are reduced by 17.5%), add on £1.75 postage for any size order - so there are some bargains to be had - apparently they list over 600, 000 ! ]

also that tompaulin website is abit lo-fi !

DJ Martian, Monday, 5 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Lo-fi? I blame the drummer, as should everyone else.

ogden, Monday, 5 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm sure they all make luvverly music together - but that group name - yuck!

Andrew L, Monday, 5 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

DJ Martian buys his records in Tesco shock.

NIck, Monday, 5 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

er who in pomtaulin is not a poster here then?

mark s, Monday, 5 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Nick I have never bought a CD online or instore from Tesco - in my life, I was merely commenting that from a search on easyvalue.com that Tesco are selling the tompaulin album and they have an excellent price promotion - 17.5 % off - which may save Brit ILMers some money.

anyway I reckon CDs should be VAT free - instead the govt should have a more progressive tax system where they introduce a higher tax band at 50% income tax for fat cat pay over 100K - and then the rest of us can get CDs VAT exempt - why should I pay the govt 17.5% for each CD bought?

Abolish VAT on CDs us Brits pay too much for CDs! this country needs a more progressive tax system !

DJ Martian, Monday, 5 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I think they're really, quite... exTRORRRd'nrehh...

(er, that was my Tom Paulin impression... doesn't really work written down though... sighs... fuhgeddit... )

DavidM, Monday, 5 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Where's Tom Tortoise when you need him?

Tom, Monday, 5 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i quite like the tompaulin singles but i am still waiting for my copy of the album to arrive via the post therefore i say classic in ignorance.

keith, Monday, 5 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I have interviewed Tompaulin and they told me about getting two songs licensed to Skysports.

It may be twee to some of your ears, but they are geogrpahically spread around britain and still manage to pull it all together.

Surely, there are more fitting targets for your dismay

Sonicred, Monday, 5 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Dismay? Nick doesn't like them, Keith does, everyone else has been wisecracking. I've never heard a note but the Tompaulinite I've met I liked a lot.

Tom, Monday, 5 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

It starts well enough but like all modern ------ descends into specious banality, forced imagery and obvious alliteration and is riddled with lurid juxtapositions of post-Vietnam American policy and Catholicism rendered soul-less by the sub-Ulysses non-linear affectation>>

katie, Tuesday, 6 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

katie, Tuesday, 6 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

three years pass...
This lot have a new album out called 'Into The Black'. The first song has banjo on it and the whole thing is ten times the record that the debut album was.

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Saturday, 22 January 2005 02:28 (twenty years ago)

the new one is marvelous, the whole of it is a fantastic country record. does jim reid really sing on it cause i don't think i hear him?

keith m (keithmcl), Saturday, 22 January 2005 02:34 (twenty years ago)

I think the booklet says he's on track eleven when it should say ten.

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Saturday, 22 January 2005 02:54 (twenty years ago)

i like this band lots

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Saturday, 22 January 2005 07:48 (twenty years ago)

ok, track 10, so he's just background noise. i was expecting some sort of mazzy star duet.

keith m (keithmcl), Saturday, 22 January 2005 16:29 (twenty years ago)

now track and field needs to hurry up with the kicker album already, i think it is out on the 29th.
