Sick Nouthall (Nick Southall), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 17:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Heh, yeah I just saw that. So apparently he rocks the iPod DJ approach.

Hobbiter Than Thou

jubal harshaw (jube), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 17:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Apparently he was at a punk show my friends were doing in NYC, but someone chased him out screaming "Fuck me in the ass, Mr. Frodo!"

Elijah Woods scares me.

I quite fancy him.

Sick Nouthall (Nick Southall), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 18:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Wood is making a "football hooligan" film.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 18:32 (twenty-one years ago)

I like a bit of ruff.

Sick Nouthall (Nick Southall), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 18:35 (twenty-one years ago)

I think his shows might be quite interesting. At least it'll beat those 1extra shows they always seem to put on whenever Peelie's away.

jellybean (jellybean), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 18:38 (twenty-one years ago)

He's into Freddie Hubbard, so he can't be all bad.

Sick Nouthall (Nick Southall), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 18:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Elijah Wood is from my hometown, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Motherfucker struts around now with this phoney British accent. I know where you're from, Mr. Frodo. I KNOW WHERE YOU'RE FROM!

ben welsh (benwelsh), Friday, 21 May 2004 21:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Outgoing Radio 1 breakfast host Chris Moyles has been lined up for a late-night radio slot once occupied by late broadcasting legend John Peel.

The 38-year-old presenter will step down from the flagship show in September, but is being tipped for a switch to a 10pm weekday show which would see him directly swap with his breakfast replacement, Nick Grimshaw.

Moyles had been previously expected to move to sister station Radio 2, but the new plans would see him fulfil his contract at Radio 1 until it expires in 2014, and potentially beyond.

The new plans are being considered by Radio 1 controller Ben Cooper, who formerly worked as the producer on Chris Moyles’ show.

But the move may not suit the station’s intended remit for driving a younger audience to the network, and promoting specialist music shows.

The slot has traditionally been a champion for new and emerging music, most famously with John Peel at the helm until his death in 2004, and Moyles’ mainstream approach may jar with some listeners.

In 2005 Radio 1 set out the show’s plans to focus on British artists “making music for music’s sake rather than for commercial success”.

Other DJs filling the late evening slot since Peel have included Huw Stephens, Ras Kwame and Rob Da Bank.

A station source said: “It is one of a number of options we are looking at. We are still taking to Chris and nothing has been finalised.

“The BBC remains committed to championing new and specialist music across the schedule.”

A Radio 1 spokesman said: “We are still in discussions with Chris about his future at Radio 1 and no decisions have been taken.”
