I saw an extremely dicey looking promo today at Amoeba which said it would be out on May 18 (and lo and behold Amazon confirms.) So is it as good as the lead off Busta single suggests?

the song w/ Luda is good.

Al (sitcom), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 22:26 (twenty-one years ago)

it's been leaked and available for download for a few days now. i got the three songs with cool features and decided not to waste my time with the rest.

hh, Tuesday, 11 May 2004 22:28 (twenty-one years ago)

i was excited about the kardinal track but he just gets to be a generic dancehall guy on the hook while meth talks about girls. and the track with ghostface is sort of okay but it's about partying.

hh, Tuesday, 11 May 2004 22:31 (twenty-one years ago)

its straight fucking rubbish

scottjames23 (worrysome-man), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 22:32 (twenty-one years ago)

word scott, it looks pretty fucking embarassing next to pretty toney, it's like meth has just devolved from one album to the next to the point where i now take him about as seriously as i do his old partner-in-crime fred durst (which wasn't a bad song btw)...the track with busta is hott and deservedly a single, the tracks with luda, ghostface, and raekwon are all passable just cuz of the talent that's on there, but the one with snoop is just fucking execrable.

I've heard he's pissed at Def Jam for releasing a version of the album he didn't want released.

djdee2005, Wednesday, 12 May 2004 04:11 (twenty-one years ago)

wel, hes claiming its his best LP yet on UK radio while the official Wu site is claiming he's unhappy and wanted a bigger share of RZA beats on there.

At the end of the day he made the crap songs.

scottjames23 (worrysome-man), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 05:49 (twenty-one years ago)

its the biggest piece of shit the wu has made for its fans to poop on.

thesplooge (thesplooge), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 09:14 (twenty-one years ago)

It all started downhill for Meth when he did that fucking Texas single.

noodle vague (noodle vague), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 09:16 (twenty-one years ago)

its method's fault - he let bad boy handle the album instead of rza. no wu member should be allowed to oversee their own albums without rza.

thesplooge (thesplooge), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 10:05 (twenty-one years ago)

That single was brilliant. but i fear i am in the minority.

scottjames23 (worrysome-man), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 10:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Weirdly I do like it too, scott. I just figure it was an early example of Meth thinking about nothing but the Benjamins.

noodle vague (noodle vague), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 10:07 (twenty-one years ago)

The Motto sounds good, as does Crooked Letter. The rest is... mediocre to pretty bad.

JoB (JoB), Thursday, 13 May 2004 18:08 (twenty-one years ago)

i think i'm the only person who really really likes it.

adam west (adamwest), Thursday, 13 May 2004 18:14 (twenty-one years ago)

meth was talking mad shit about the critic from xxl at the show i was at a couple of weeks ago. something along the lines of 'hes a scared ass bitch who was sitting in the back row during the listening session.'

he didnt do too many songs from the new record tho. alot of greatest hits and some of his raps from other folk's songs. it was a great show however. alot of energy.

bill stevens (bscrubbins), Thursday, 13 May 2004 18:20 (twenty-one years ago)

adam, i like it. i never thought meth was a great lyricist, or that tical was even one of the best early wu-solo albums, so i never had high hopes. he has a great voice, nice flow, so as long as he had nice beats, i knew i'd like it as a summer album. the single is great.
those people who want it to sound RZA-related have been pedalling that line for about 6 years now...rza just isn't that interested in being the most important producer any more.

paulhw (paulhw), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 19:58 (twenty-one years ago)

The single is REALLY great. What a disappointment.

its method's fault - he let bad boy handle the album instead of rza. no wu member should be allowed to oversee their own albums without rza

uhh...GHOSTFACE?!

djdee205, Tuesday, 18 May 2004 22:53 (twenty-one years ago)

All of these posts and no mention of CHINKY?????

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 24 May 2004 17:17 (twenty-one years ago)

It's not a bad record. It's just kinda okay, really. It's more solid than Judgement Day, so that's an improvement. "The Afterparty" is an obvious classic, as far as I'm concerned. It's not even close to being in the same league as The Pretty Toney Album, but it's definitely above average in terms of Wu solo records.

Matthew Perpetua (Matthew Perpetua), Monday, 24 May 2004 19:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Apparently I'm the only person who is somewhat bothered that someone named Chinky appears on this album.

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 24 May 2004 19:49 (twenty-one years ago)

It's like the grocery-store brand Chingy.

NA (Nick A.), Monday, 24 May 2004 20:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Where does this one fit in terms of the over-arching Tical story?

Mark (MarkR), Tuesday, 25 May 2004 02:25 (twenty-one years ago)

It's the PREQUEL!
