Blow me down, I just received an e-mail from Dumpy himself, which I felt I should share with everyone, given that there was some doubt about their authenticity a while back. Seems that Dumpy has been Googling and happened on an old thread. The 'real story' about the name change is now revealed for the first time, and Dumpy corrects me about is favourite drink.
**Hello Dr C Thanks for informing Ned about DRN.
Just a couple of things though I was the only one in the band who used to put on the goggles, and I never ever wore a flying helmet.
Funny I still get people come up to me at gigs and say I remember seeing you with a flying helmet on, Maybe they confused me with, Roy Chubby Brown or Bob Calvert who knows maybe they were as --it faced as I was on the night.
How the nuts/bolts thing came about was, when the first single Just for kicks came out Steve Wright played it on radio One and after saying rusty nuts he made a comment that he sure hoped it wasn't catching so those wise controllers at the BBC stopped him playing it.
The record company phoned me in a panic saying, we have got to change the name of the band, so they reprinted the labels and sleeves to Bolts but it still didn't get played again other than by Tommy Vance or Alan Freeman on the Rock Shows.
Anyway nice to talk to you and av a look at me website.
