I used Julee Cruise through my first two years of university for writing papers past 3 am. It fit the manic-drowsiness-despite-dizzying-caffeine perfectly, and always kept on edge, esp. the orchestral stabs.

Seconding toon's listing of White Noise - An Electric Storm In Hell. I was just going to say that.

briania, Thursday, 13 May 2004 18:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Christian Death "Dogs": a nasty sounding track that used to make me think a guy with a Halloween mask and a meat cleaver was in my closet.

Thrill Kill Kult "Confessions of a Knife": listened to this the first time I did acid and actually saw the individual mentioned above, also tried to attack someone I didn't like at a party two hours later with a kitchen knife, but was subdued by several friends, not sure if the record had anything to do with it (drugs are bad).

js, Thursday, 13 May 2004 19:38 (twenty-one years ago)

15. Matmos - A Chance to Cut Is a Chance to Cure

After gaining the trust and cooperation of surgeons and patients, the band was allowed to record in operating rooms and clinics. Back in the studio, Matmos performed surgery of their own upon the sounds they had gathered, building rhythms from the clanks, rasps and snips of the scalpel, kick drums from the sound of bones being broken, and rich drones from the buzz of human skin conducting electricity through acupuncture points.
