I just purchased Berlinette and it makes me want to go to Amoeba and find similar stuff of a similar quality. What should I get next? also, which of hers should I get next? she's got a lots of remix CD shit over at Amoeba.

cars is an excellent track. you might like adult.?

cutty (mcutt), Thursday, 13 May 2004 16:46 (twenty-one years ago)

the song i was referring to is i wish not cars. i was thinking of the lyrics.

cutty (mcutt), Thursday, 13 May 2004 16:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I do like Adult. quite a lot, I should get their last album I suppose...

Sascha Funke on Bpitch
Apparat on Shitkatapult
M.I.A. on Sub Static

Also, now would be as good a time as any to remind SF readers that Ellen is playing this Saturday at Club Six. I'm playing as well, so consider this an absolutely shameless bit of self-promo.

philip sherburne (philip sherburne), Thursday, 13 May 2004 17:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Sascha Funk seconded. Isn't the guy in Apparat dating Ellen at the moment?

The Ellen Allien mixes (Flieg Mit, Weiss) and the Bpitch Control compilations (Berlin 2000, Berlin 2001, Geinsamsemwhatever) complement Berlinette nicely. On the softer end, you might want to check out Barbara Morgenstern.

I hear the M.i.a. album is good - is it out yet Philip?

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Thursday, 13 May 2004 19:05 (twenty-one years ago)

perhaps you'd like the christiane f 12" (wunderbar/health dub).

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 13 May 2004 19:13 (twenty-one years ago)

You can get the M.I.A. record from Forced Exposure here in the US; also direct from Kompakt mailorder. It's very good. More techno than Ellen, but I think it shares something of Ellen's depth.

philip sherburne (philip sherburne), Thursday, 13 May 2004 19:22 (twenty-one years ago)

so if i think "open" is ellen's best track, i should see about this m.i.a business?

m. (mitchlnw), Thursday, 13 May 2004 19:37 (twenty-one years ago)

I like Berlinette fine but Weiss.Mix, her DJ set from 2002, blows it away. Get that, then track down stuff from it that entices you. (Exception: Squarepusher, whose stuff isn't generally in that vein.)

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Thursday, 13 May 2004 19:40 (twenty-one years ago)

that's the great thing about DJ-mix CDs by artists, imho--it gives you a ready-made guide to other things you might like as well.

I second Barbara Morgenstern. Nichts Muss (her recent record) is excellent, though a bit softer than Ellen Allien's stuff.

three months pass...
"Fjorden" BM's previous record is really, really good. Twice as good, I hate to admit.

grumpy bastard (grumpy_bastard), Saturday, 11 September 2004 00:36 (twenty years ago)

I think I prefer Fjorden to Nicht Muss too, but they are both great

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Saturday, 11 September 2004 02:04 (twenty years ago)

Oh, and BM's debut record Vermona is no slouch either !

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Saturday, 11 September 2004 02:06 (twenty years ago)

If you haven't got her remix album it is killer.

That arel records comp also has some good stuff in that vein.

hector (hector), Saturday, 11 September 2004 02:53 (twenty years ago)

The new Ada album on Areal should be fucking aces. If it is a bit poppier then her output so far, I imagine (lazy) journalists will compare to a hybrid of Ellen Allien & Barbara Morgenstern.

I'll second the EA remix disc too!
