Let's talk about how great Dumptruck is

Is the consensus that "For the Country" was their best work ever? What about the new stuff? Ever seen them live?

three weeks pass...
Back when they did "Back Where I Belong" I went to try and see them live. That's when I started becoming jinxed and learned that if I listen to the band on the day of the show something bad will happen. That time, I (and a friend to whom I had been hyping Dumptruck all day) found out at the door that it was sold out! I still haven't seen them. But I still love "Back Where I Belong".

Although apparently no one cares, FYI - Rykodisk has rereleased all three Dumptruck records, with bonus tracks.

But y'all have taste not enough.

D Is For Dumptruck was their best.

I tried to get into them around 2000/01 when I was buying lots of vinyl, but, even at like $3 per record, I was sort of disappointed. Seemed just kind of *blah.*

Did they do that "Impossible Things Before Breakfast" song? all those Boston bands run together around 1988

Big Dipper, thus proving my point :)

Donna Brown (Donna Brown), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 07:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Wasn't that song off the album Big Dipper did on Epic? I liked the two Homestead ones (Heavens & Craps) but that Epic record is probably one of the worst things I ever bought.

NickB (NickB), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 09:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Heh -- I gave the Epic album an extremely neutral review via the AMG and a year or two later one of the guys in the band dropped me an e-mail agreeing with me completely!

One of the Dumptruck guys came into the record shop in Hoboken. Nice guy. Anybody else have any thoughts on their material?

I have it all. I really like it when I play it, but it's never called to me, if you know what I mean. "Days Of Fear" was the strongest after the first few.

"Going Nowhere"'s one of my favourite songs from that time.

Yeah, this for me too. They remind me of Let's Active without many of that band's pop hooks. Maybe I just need to play them more.

I dig Kevin Salem's solo work as well, particularly his first one.

First time I got into an internet argument was on a Prodigy message board (ok, I'm old). I said Miracle Legion was better than Dumptruck (both being New England indie bands & playing the same club circuit). Some guy took issue with that opinion and started ranting at me on the message board.

You were right, though.

Jazzbo, Friday, 22 February 2019 15:08 (six years ago)

Funny argument since Mark Mulcahy was Dumptruck's early drummer.

As mentioned above, "Going Nowhere" is a long-time favourite. I grabbed some CDs for a long road trip yesterday, including Positively Dumptruck, which I didn't know at all. I like this:

Amazing: directed by Kelly Reichardt!

I just listened to "Lemmings" and the live material last week. The former was a good final statement until the reunion album came out. The live stuff is at the peak of their powers, wicked fun.
