Don Caballero Touring

I saw that Don Caballero was playing a string of dates on Pollstar, starting tonight @ BOTH in San Francisco. This is great news. I thought they had broken up and the drummer went on to form Bellini.
Is the current lineup the original lineup or are there new members? Are they back together?

tk, Tuesday, 18 May 2004 20:43 (twenty years ago) link

It's Damon Che (the drummer) and his most recent incarnation of the band. Creedence Clearwater Revisited.

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 20:49 (twenty years ago) link

no original members besides damon. please see: BATTLES

cutty (mcutt), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 20:50 (twenty years ago) link

Yeah, please see BATTLES.

Anyhow, I'm going to check out "Don Caballero" tomorrow and I'll try to report back here with my thoughts.

deanomgwtf!!!p%3Fmsgid%3D4581997 (deangulberry), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 20:51 (twenty years ago) link

i wish damon hadn't given in to temptation for the easy buck and instead toured as Thee Speaking Canaries. last year's album was ace.

jack cole (jackcole), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 20:54 (twenty years ago) link

Fuck that drunk asshole, that's not Don Cab. I'm glad to see so much Battles love. Don't they have a single/LP coming out soon?

jordache, Tuesday, 18 May 2004 21:02 (twenty years ago) link

Theres an ep on p2p. So that must be either out or out very very soon.
What are thee speaking canaries like?

Rock Bastard, Tuesday, 18 May 2004 21:06 (twenty years ago) link

battles - EP C

me and ddb saw "don caballero" when they played brooklyn. "they" played mostly first album material and it was f'in BORING. there was no ian, therefore no gum chewing, NO CHARISMA.

go see BATTLES.

cutty, how high was the guitar on the guitarist's chest?

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 21:16 (twenty years ago) link

it was the guys from creta bourzia, but let me tell you, they looked like fucking JOCKS.

it was not pretty.

cutty (mcutt), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 21:19 (twenty years ago) link

Battles sounds promising.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 21:25 (twenty years ago) link

They are great. Don't listen to these guys. They fear beatboxing because they are R A C I S T.

YE$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

cutty (mcutt), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 21:40 (twenty years ago) link

I'm listening to the "mixtape" from their site now, it's pretty hilarious.

"This beat is HOT hot hot hot...sounds like muthafuckin' TOMAHAWK hawk hawk hawk..."

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 21:43 (twenty years ago) link

thanks dean let me know how the show was. i am surprised that Don Cab would continue on in name with only one member, just cause each one brought such a unique sound to the band.
are they planning on recording anything or is this just a quick money-maker tour?

tk, Tuesday, 18 May 2004 21:47 (twenty years ago) link

che is the founder of the band, why he's choosing to keep the name going is odd.

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 21:57 (twenty years ago) link

deanomgwtf!!!p%3Fmsgid%3D4581997 (deangulberry), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 17:56 (twenty years ago) link

SO. It was enjoyable. Death From Above opened with a really powerful bass sound and a decent set, with some slight vocal problems. Either way, they were a really great choice to warm up the crowd. "Don Cab" was pretty on the mark. The songs were loud and great, but cutty was right that they lack the charisma. Everyone who said that Damon is/was a drunk seemed on the mark as his between song banter was mostly him requesting absolute & cokes, which he finally received after prolonging an encore.

wtf?!? Today is an optimum Burritoville day but there seems to be some sort of demonstration going on downtown? Just heard a bunch of shouting and chanting followed by police sirens and screeching tires...
