The cocaine album: made when band/artist is totally out of his/their skull on the white stuff. Which are the classics? And which the duds?

thing of thing, Thursday, 20 May 2004 14:33 (twenty-one years ago)

and his entire oeuvre, really.

Apparently Steve Gadd doesn't remember playing his solo on the title track.

I believe it. Somebody told me they saw him play some show recently (maybe Steely Dan) and while everyone was wearing a suit and tie, he had on a white t-shirt, shorts and looked like he hadn't slept in several days.

Guns'n'Roses -- Use Your Illusion Vol. 1 & 2

(Of course, there were probably plenty of other substances being used in those sessions.)

Aerosmith -- Draw the Line

Pretty self evident from even just the title.

The irony of that whole thing with Scorcese editing out Neil Young's nostril coke frame by frame in The Last Waltz is that Scorcese himself was probably wired to the gills on the stuff. How else could he have been so meticulous?

Naive Teen Idol (Naive Teen Idol), Thursday, 20 May 2004 15:16 (twenty-one years ago)

i have a friend of a friend who's trying to put together a web promo for a site he's working on... said friend of a friend's sister is since-high-school-buddies with Evan Dando and he's trying to do a "Rick James, Bitch!" style skit where Dando and dude would be arguing about who has a bigger head. They're trying to get Dando to do some sort of super brief thing about how he never even met the guy, why should he care how big his head was.

All I could think of was that a clip with Dando saying "Cocaine is a hell of a drug" would be fucking classic. But what are the chances?

"The One Man Twins" shows Kirk doling out little spoon-fulls of blow from one of the many mojo bags strapped about his neck and shoulders -- this is the same show that nickalicious sites, so the snow must've really been blowing at that particular show.

Dud, mostly. Grace Slick apparently remembers little if anything from this record, which is just as well: Her vocals are erratic and she comes in at the wrong place several times on "Easter?" and "Son of Jesus."

Eagles of Death Metal- Peace, Love, Deathmetal

though, i'm pretty sure meth was the substance of choice(San Bernadino=meth capital of the west coast), this album goes hand in hand with the slopes.

a close runner up-
white light, white heat- but, yet again, meth.

damn, i guess neither, huh?

I thought White Light White Heat was about smack!

I seem to remember is some book I read many years ago Brockris repeatedly making a point that Lou wasn't a big heroin user but a whites/crosstops popper.

Even though I'm (mostly) a non-user, I've always been a bit of a drug-snob: a believer that most coke-inspired music sucks (and most speed-fuelled music rules!); and many of the LPs already mentioned convince me I'm right. But there are exceptions, and I'm always discovering more. Such as these...

i think it's made mention in "Uptight" about how they were all pretty hepped up on the meth, turning they're eyes yellow and lou even having drop a couple of shows due to usage.

WL/WH's too up tempo to be a dope tune.
now, the Gift on the otherhand...
