I think this remix of Kelis's 'Get Along With You' is the most beautiful thing I've heard this year

The original beat just doesn't do justice to the song.

This FakeID mix's glacial electro stateliness just sums up everything for me right now.

just listening now

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 20 May 2004 21:19 (twenty-one years ago)

You'll probably think it's shit.

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 20 May 2004 21:35 (twenty-one years ago)

glacial electro stateliness

If it doesn't live up to this description I'll pout.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 20 May 2004 21:37 (twenty-one years ago)

i like it a lot but i'm a big sucker for the first kelis record.

myke boomnoise (myke boomnoise), Thursday, 20 May 2004 21:38 (twenty-one years ago)

but i don't think it's an improvement on the original. nice though.

myke boomnoise (myke boomnoise), Thursday, 20 May 2004 21:40 (twenty-one years ago)

I think it brings out the sad dignity in her vocal.

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 20 May 2004 21:42 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, nice remix, but the original is one of my favorite Neptunes productions ever.

Al (sitcom), Friday, 21 May 2004 00:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Once it picks up about halfway through, it really does a fucking fantastic job. The synth fadeout to drums is a bit gimmicky tho. a bit more micro in the mix would help.

the original is great too, tho.

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Friday, 21 May 2004 01:25 (twenty-one years ago)

The remix of Joe Budden's "Fire" sounds like a BBC production that Robin would be all over!

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Friday, 21 May 2004 01:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, I'd have to agree. The first part is too monochrome.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 21 May 2004 01:34 (twenty-one years ago)

it's really pretty.

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Friday, 21 May 2004 02:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Ohh! So this is why the Neptunes are good. I get it.

David Allen (David Allen), Friday, 21 May 2004 03:40 (twenty-one years ago)

the original is awesome, i must hear this remix

stevem (blueski), Friday, 21 May 2004 09:10 (twenty-one years ago)

speaking of Kelis remixes it's weird how i didn't like the Timo Maas mix of 'Young, Fresh And New' at all for over a year but it rocks my world now, it sounds so charged to me

stevem (blueski), Friday, 21 May 2004 09:12 (twenty-one years ago)

I think that was one of the first records I asked a DJ about. In 2001.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 21 May 2004 09:15 (twenty-one years ago)

why IS kelis so beloved of bad trance DJ's of the type who end up on "ULTRADANCE2004" style comps?

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Friday, 21 May 2004 09:43 (twenty-one years ago)

pink hair

pete b. (pete b.), Friday, 21 May 2004 09:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I still get thrown by the randomness of the "don't need no cellphone (though digital's better)" aside.

N. (nickdastoor), Friday, 21 May 2004 10:04 (twenty-one years ago)

the first 2 minutes is decent but predictable but it picks up. pretty good.

jed_ (jed), Friday, 21 May 2004 10:16 (twenty-one years ago)

it's a bit boring. the original is head and shoulders better, much more intricate and punchy but still full of longing. this removes all the orchestral parts, the pizzicato strings etc and these were the best bits of this song. don't get me wrong, it's nice and if i didn't know the original probably i'd like it, but as it stands, i have and i don't.

It's the minimalism that I like. I don't find it remotely boring. The beauty is all there in Kelis's performance - the heavy beats of the original just suffocate it, for me.

I don't know - I guess this song is very relevant to me just now, and this version cuts it in the right way.

N. (nickdastoor), Friday, 21 May 2004 10:47 (twenty-one years ago)

i dont think it goes far enough into minimalism, for me, but you have got me listening to the original CD again - "Suspended" is completely gorgeous.

jed_ (jed), Friday, 21 May 2004 10:53 (twenty-one years ago)

yes yes yes 'suspended' = best kelis song ever!

pete b. (pete b.), Friday, 21 May 2004 10:54 (twenty-one years ago)

it's great that Kelis has become the proper successful cast-iron pop empress she now is, and with about 37 cast-iron classic tracks to her name. why do i like saying cast-iron?

Gravel Puzzleworth (Gregory Henry), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 13:34 (twenty years ago)

I haven't heard the original. I wonder what that changes.

Gravel Puzzleworth (Gregory Henry), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 13:35 (twenty years ago)

People should hear this, if they haven't.

Gravel Puzzleworth (Gregory Henry), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 13:35 (twenty years ago)

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Friday, 25 February 2005 07:01 (twenty years ago)

Fuck that, it's ALL about the Duran Duran - 'The Reflex' remix, which is the sound of JC Chasez's 'ADLIDAS' having fireworks anally inserted and then watching it explode and whizz around the sky blowing catherine wheels out its ass. Smokin'!

Deerninja B4rim4, Plus-Tech Whizz Kid (Barima), Friday, 25 February 2005 21:45 (twenty years ago)
