last night i listened to this in full and was i blown away by the immensity and depth of the music contained on the 4 discs. I would go as far as to say it is their best work to date and a remarkable achievement. The way the sound immerses you so completely is just exquisite. But your opinions…?

Pan Sonic - Kesto

sorry.

no-one seems to want to talk about it much though.

kyle (akmonday), Friday, 21 May 2004 17:36 (twenty-one years ago)

i asssumed that now one would which is why i didn't check for threads. someone lock me up.

myke boomnoise (myke boomnoise), Friday, 21 May 2004 17:39 (twenty-one years ago)

it seems like one of those albums that begs to be purchased and not bootlegged, but it's very expensive, so I think many people don't have it yet.

kyle (akmonday), Friday, 21 May 2004 17:43 (twenty-one years ago)

$30 for 4 hours of music? Seems like a good deal.

sexyDancer, Friday, 21 May 2004 17:46 (twenty-one years ago)

it is a good deal, but it's more expensive than $8, which is what I susually pay for used stuff. So, I haven't picked it up yet. But I vote for classic anyway despite having not heard it.

kyle (akmonday), Friday, 21 May 2004 17:49 (twenty-one years ago)

i think it is so classic it hurts to be honest. value for money is the real issue here and i think it is something you will come back to again and again so very worth whatever your cheapest local/cyberweb retailer is charging.

myke boomnoise (myke boomnoise), Friday, 21 May 2004 17:52 (twenty-one years ago)

It renders their back catalog obsolete so you could trade in your old ones for it.

sexyDancer, Friday, 21 May 2004 18:04 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll never be selling my copy of 'vakio'. The others, maybe.

Certainly looking forward to hearing this new one.

"Sleep of Haddock"!

I can understand their desire to keep what sound like very distinctly-themed quarters physically separate but when I saw the duration in the title I immediately thought, "DVD!" Worth a trip to These for This.

Little Uusi Fantasia birds like me are happy to notice that there came good things out of Mika's and Ilpo's rocking all over the world-style touring and brushes with mentally unstable conditions. I give the new Pan Sanic quadruple album 10 ringing oscillators out of 10.

Kaiser of Köln (Kaiser of Köln), Friday, 21 May 2004 19:56 (twenty-one years ago)

As much as I'd like to check this thing out, it's too much, and too much money. I don't think I'd play all four CDs more than twice each in the course of the first year of ownership, and thus can't justify the purchase. I saw them live once, though (opening for Wire in, I think, 2000 or 2001), and they were great.

Phil Freeman (Phil Freeman), Friday, 21 May 2004 20:14 (twenty-one years ago)

I got it day before yesterday and it is amazing -- it does benefit from listening to all of them straight through. It is *incredibly* scary, especially the third disc, which is basically creepy abstract ambience; and the first disc, the 'mayhem' tracks especially are TERRIFYING loud and in the dark. it's totally awesome.

mrjosh (mrjosh), Saturday, 22 May 2004 02:17 (twenty-one years ago)

That review makes me ache for this album.

Barry Bruner (Barry Bruner), Saturday, 22 May 2004 03:00 (twenty-one years ago)

I got this 4xClassicDiscs today and I've just listened through it all. This quadruple album has MAGNUM OPUS written all over it. The funny thing is that Ilpo and Mika actually ROCKS on a couple of tracks.

I love this box set and I will defend it to death. Hakka Päälle!

Kaiser of Köln (Kaiser of Köln), Tuesday, 25 May 2004 14:29 (twenty-one years ago)

three years pass...

can anyone tell me about vvv (Vainio / Väisänen / Vega)? are the two albums both worth picking up? is it slamming or drone or ambient or what?

creme1, Tuesday, 19 June 2007 23:41 (eighteen years ago)

i like the first one. it sounds like a simplified panasonic (beat-y as they were at the time) with alan vega doing his suicide bit over it.
