Whatever you think of the Perry stuff, their first three albums are pointless enough that I can't imagine why they were recorded, let alone released.

They actually went to shit when Jonathan Cain joined, they could've had a nice Bay Area Buttrock thing (cf. Miller, Scaggs), instead of winding up cranking out slushy shit sandwiches.

Which differs from their other stuff, how, exactly?

Listening to "Lovin' Touchin' Squeezin'" is the closest you can get to proposing marriage to a Bubblicious-chewing, menthol Kool-smoking Mormon teenaged divorcee in the parking lot of a motel across the Interstate from the State Fair grounds without actually proposing marriage to a Bubblicious-chewing, menthol Kool-smoking Mormon teenaged divorcee in the parking lot of a motel across the Interstate from a State Fair.

So I'm in favour of whatever era that song is from.

Fritz...
You are awesome.

Please, drop more science on us undeserving neophytes.

back on topic...
Actually, I think the whole whole Journey/Styx/REO Stationwagon sound shouldn't be called soft rock. (like there are any rocks that are soft, I mean besides talc.) If Ted Nugent is cock rock, then Journey is No-Cock Rock. If Bill Hicks were here today, he might call it Ball- less scrotum rock.

Baby Powder Rock? How about we just call that lovable shite Baby Powder, huh, huh?

What about post-Perry, where they recovened (with Perry) and won a Grammy (woo! validity!) and STILL hit #4 or #3 on the Billboard charts? That's brandname longevity for ya.

I may be dreaming here, but I think I saw something billed as "Journey" as the halftime "entertainment" at a 49er game many years ago. I know Neil Schon was there, I think Johnathan Cain was there, I think they had the drummer from Huey Lewis and the News or something, singing may have been the New Steve Perry but also may have been one of Santana's singers. Talk about your bay area buttrock!
I remember they used to have this prog-rock radio show in the bay area called "Stone Trek", which was the only place I've ever heard the pre-Perry Journey stuff. The host used to always complain about the prog rockers who sold out: Journey, Ambrosia, Yes, etc. Every time he played a Journey song he'd say, "Maaan, caaaan you believe thaaat was Journey?" Fucking hilarious.

SF Giants: Grateful Dead, Oakland A's: John Fogerty, 49ers: The New Journey, Raiders: Too Short? Taking Sides, anyone?

Yes, but remember that the same people that gave Journey an award are the same people that gave Jethro Tull one for "Heavy Metal" and on to Milli Vanilli for "Best New Artist" (Well, I agree with the "new" part, but I don't see how "artist", much less "best" fits.)

steve perry is aaron carter's favourite singer. 'open arms', 'faithfully' they were the best band to soundtrack the slow- skates at the roller rink.
