I have Heads And Hearts by The Sound, I really like it, mid-80's style rock a lot like the Chameleons I thinks. Are the other records any good? How about the Adrian Borland solo stuff or any of the side projects?

I have "Shock of Daylight", and it's quite good.

Forthcoming release news Red Sun Records
ADRIAN BORLAND'S LAST ALBUM Red Sun Records will release Harmony & Destruction the album that Adrian was working on prior to his tragic death. It is scheduled for release on December 6th 2001 which would have been Adrian's birthday. The album will contain 15 new songs that surprisingly enough do NOT sound depressing at all, they are hopefull, melancholic and uplifting. And again this album will show what a fantastic and brilliant songwriter Adrian Borland was.

I thought you meant "The Sound" by Swans - an awesome track that lasts almost quarter-of-an-hour.

four months pass...
Yay, revival. I am very curious about The Sound - comparisons to the Comsats and the Chameleons and Joy Division have been splattered all over the net which make them sound godly, but I can't find any real info on them...and I can't find their durn CDs for sale either. I've heard rumor of reissue..or perhaps that already happened? Anyways, I want to hear more about them, what they sound like, what albums I should check out and why. Someone help me?

also, mp3s or directions to some would be appreciated. :)

If I'm not mistaken, there are some RA snippets of the Sound's later works on the Brittle Heaven site. The reissues are indeed out; they can be bought through Red Sun in the Netherlands (very nice folks despite their plagiarization of something I wrote; they used it for a different record, so obviously I'm curious to hear it ha! ha! ha!) or directly through the label that actually put them out -- Renascent.

Emily, Audiogalaxy has plenty of mp3s by The Sound. Discography and tracklists are at allmusic.com. Try anything up to 1985.

one year passes...
Considering how good and really accessible The Sound's music was, it is hard to believe they are such an obscure band.

I have really enjoyed their first two albums and plan on searching out their third record.

Picked up a replacement copy of Shock of Daylight at the weekend, the first one of theirs I ever heard and still probably my personal favourite. Hadn't realised till now that the horns on it were done by a couple of the Cardiacs. Looking forward to splurging on the BBC thing that came out not long ago.

I just recently got Jeopardy and it fuckin' COOKS! Hard to believe they never took off whilst many of their entirely inferior contemporaries became household names.

I cannot figure why they never at least had a record ever put out in the states or why it took until 2001 for their music to come out on CD?

The only thing that I can figure is that they were not very good live or didn't play live very much. The live tracks on "Jeopardy" are solid, so I don't know.

Anyone ever heard The Outsiders? Are their two albums any good?

earlnash, Wednesday, 17 March 2004 00:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Sire never picked them up. Everything would have been different if they had. They would have been rolling around in all that Bunnymen money.

scott seward (scott seward), Wednesday, 17 March 2004 00:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Actually, they DID sign to A&M.

**The only thing that I can figure is that they were not very good live or didn't play live very much**

Definitely not right! See this thread for my thorts.
:The Sound - Classic/Dud/Search/Destroy

They never got any bigger because Adrian wasn't as personable or as interested in playing the game as Mac/Bono. Also, when they did sign to WEA from Korova, they put out the unexpected 'All Fall Down'. Their best album, but certainly not what WEA wanted. They got dropped right away.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Wednesday, 17 March 2004 13:15 (twenty-two years ago)

I heard a rumour that Adrian suffered from some serious nervous disorder and quite recently killed himself by stepping in front of a train. Sound right?

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 17 March 2004 13:55 (twenty-two years ago)

That is unfortunately true. His death was about five years back.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 17 March 2004 14:18 (twenty-two years ago)

There's a local news report from the time of his death right here. It's pretty sad.

"all fall down" is so brilliant--
