Allyzay, Wednesday, 26 May 2004 16:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Should it?

Tim (Tim), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 16:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Well I never thought of it that way before, but yeah, probably.

Allyzay, Wednesday, 26 May 2004 16:39 (twenty-one years ago)

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 16:40 (twenty-one years ago)

It's a new term, there are 4 per year.

Allyzay, Wednesday, 26 May 2004 16:41 (twenty-one years ago)

there is an SF Bay Area date too but it's attached to a crap daylong festival run by a crap radio station.

kyle (akmonday), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 16:43 (twenty-one years ago)

So I visited shitpiss.com, and you nasty.

stephen morris (stephen morris), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 16:50 (twenty-one years ago)

OMG I was kidding but HOLY FUCK! ClearChannel will BREAK THE STREETS! Can't wait for the inevitable turn complete with anti-Mike Skinner "you talked shit about our boys in Iraq" rally!

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 16:51 (twenty-one years ago)

they're an infiniti station (or Cos, I can't remember) and it's not in the main stage but in some side tent, but, yeah.

kyle (akmonday), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 16:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Infiniti! OMG HOWARD STERN WILL BREAK THE STREETS!

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 16:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Dizzee's got no love for the midwest.

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 17:04 (twenty-one years ago)

ALSO "Earthlink Live" WTF!!!!????!!? hahahahaha.

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 17:05 (twenty-one years ago)

OMG I will be in LA for that date, but I was going to fly home that day. If anyone (Spencer? Ned?) is going, I might delay my flight and hang around.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 17:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 17:11 (twenty-one years ago)

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 17:12 (twenty-one years ago)

b-b-but it's the England-France Euro 2004 game the next day! How will I get back to SF to see it? Is there anywhere that would show it in LA? Who fancies spending an Anglophiliac weekend with ya boy from the 510?

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 17:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Morley Timmons (Donna Brown), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 17:14 (twenty-one years ago)

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Friday, 28 May 2004 16:37 (twenty-one years ago)

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 28 May 2004 17:28 (twenty-one years ago)

one month passes...
Did anyone make it to the NYC show last nite? What time did Dizzee Rascal go on? (I want to keep my Irving Plaza face time to a minimum.)

I Luv You (Mary), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 22:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Dizzee went on around 9:00, I guess.

Otis Wheeler (Otis Wheeler), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 23:24 (twenty-one years ago)

the streets = awesome! i thought dizzee was kind of boring though to be honest.

haha the vice afterparty: free sparks alcoholic energy drink = total ruin

geeta (geeta), Thursday, 1 July 2004 01:31 (twenty-one years ago)

the best part was the intermission when they played tracks like "Cock Back", "What Have U Done", "Leave Me Alone" and "What" at full volume over the soundsystem!

also Wonder is Dizzee's tour DJ this time

Paul (scifisoul), Thursday, 1 July 2004 02:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Following Monday night's show at Avalon in Boston, compartively speaking, The Streets' live show last spring was less "accessible" and rawer than this year's edition. I prefer the former to the latter - a little too friendly and for the "birds" this go 'round. Kinda like Ben Harper circa '94 versus '04.

nader (nader), Thursday, 1 July 2004 02:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Dizzee was all wrong for the alterna-crowd the streets are now attracting. but all these cute 19yr old blondes were singing along to "could well be in" and i sang with them and it was sweet and totally great.

skinner gives a good lively show but dizzee got shafted just coz he can't fight the right american audience and nobody fucking DANCED. Also his production was kinda lame compared to all the good stuff when he was with roll deep. And his attempts to jack u.s. hip-hop culture came off sorta flat.

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Thursday, 1 July 2004 03:33 (twenty-one years ago)

I got there late because I was dreading I.P. and I missed "I Luv U." Why does he have to open with his best song? I don't know, but I think that Dizzee isn't so charismatic? He seems like a sweet kid though. I was surprised that he closed with "Fix Up, Look Sharp," and that seemed to get the most response from the audience. Did it get radio play or something?

Loved Mike Skinner—thought the OPM tracks went down much better than those from AGDCFF (and I love those later ones on album). But what happened during, was it, "So Easy"? Skinner came out braying for tea and no one could find him any, then they cut into the song, then all of sudden he stops halfway though and tells the drummer to stop the song because of violence in the audience. Then he points to a spot in the audience and asks for security to come in and sort it out, and of course no securtity comes. Then they skip the next song (I was behind the soundbooth and they had a setlist), which was "Stay Positive" and go into, "Don't Mug Yourself"? I think I'm missing a song. We asked for the setlist but it was already promised to someone else. Anyway, M.S. says, "We can't be having any violence here. That's why I left England, to get away from that." I thought he left England because he was on tour? But maybe he said Birmingham? Then later he said, "I'm sorry we're English. I'm so ashamed to be English. Everywhere we go something bad happens."

At a point earlier in the evening, someone was yelling something from the audience, about either West Ham or Birmingham City...what is Skinner's team, because he didn't seem very happy to hear about Birmingham City... Then they did this extended improve about "New York F.C." -- did they do that last night? It was really funny. I'm really wishing that I went and saw the Streets when they played in Brooklyn in now.

Special to any artist that I like: Please do not play Irving Plaza. I hope to never enter its halls again.

Skinner's dancing was really great but after the violence incident he toned it down for fear of insighting further riots.

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 1 July 2004 05:02 (twenty-one years ago)

I dunno but in LA at least Dizzee wiped the floor with Mikee. Maybe Mikee was "on" in nyc, but in LA he didn't have anything to counter Dizzee's elevated next-level neck-snapping rhymes.

Lukas (lukas), Thursday, 1 July 2004 06:12 (twenty-one years ago)

DIZZEE IS THE LIVING AVATAR OF LUIGI RUSSOLO

BOW DOWN

Lukas (lukas), Thursday, 1 July 2004 06:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Also, when I saw him in LA he was spitting over other people beats alot so, you know, don't be mean, he's just a kid, he'll cry, I'll cry, be nice.

Lukas (lukas), Thursday, 1 July 2004 06:16 (twenty-one years ago)

haha he was drinking tea in LA!! except i thought the endless britishness jokes were lame. what is he, a prop comic now??

also lukas is totally right wrt the LA show, except dizzee did three freestyles where he skipped the "elevated next-level neck-snapping rhymes" to do boring-ass ghetto storytelling in rakim style. or maybe he was trying to do nas, i dunno, but it wasn't working so great.

in LA the crowd seemed pretty evenly split between rootsy conscious b-boy hip-hopper types (bane of the west coast!) and the vice crowd. i think the former were much more into dizzee than the latter, and tended to be more demonstrative, so dizzee got more crowd response.

i'm still not sure if dizzee was better or if i just hate the new streets material.

vahid (vahid), Thursday, 1 July 2004 06:21 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah xpost yeah

vahid (vahid), Thursday, 1 July 2004 06:21 (twenty-one years ago)

nothing personal if you are a bboy lucas!!

vahid (vahid), Thursday, 1 July 2004 06:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Dizzee sounds great on record, well, some of the time anyway, I'm just not sure that performing live is his métier. Unless Moz Angeles brought out his inner star? Also, I couldn't understand a word he said. He could perhaps pander more to an American audience? Such a sweet baby face though.

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 1 July 2004 07:17 (twenty-one years ago)

well i sort of thought he was pandering with the lame freestyles. but yeah, the whole show was more confirmation that it'll never catch on here.

vahid (vahid), Thursday, 1 July 2004 07:41 (twenty-one years ago)

He won the crowd over at Coachella too!

Ok I'll stop.

Lukas (lukas), Thursday, 1 July 2004 15:35 (twenty-one years ago)
