How can I love and collect music without eventually becoming record collector scum?

I don't want to be that fellow who lives in a dusty house and only ventures out to hit up record stores and talk to other record collector scum. A quick image search under the phrase in question revealed a possible fate:

Now I'm fairly certain that some of these fellows aren't record collectors and that third guy is in Uriah Heep I think, but still, I find this all very troublesome.

Nice cat.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 27 May 2004 17:48 (twenty-one years ago)

If you have the presence of mind to ask the question then you probably don't have anything to worry about.

scott seward (scott seward), Thursday, 27 May 2004 17:49 (twenty-one years ago)

if you get into bad hardcore bands you can use vinyl to impress 16 year old girls with plugs into letting you sodomize them

wait what

I'd hang out with the first guy, probably.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 27 May 2004 17:51 (twenty-one years ago)

I thought you had plugs? (xp)

I actually fear for that cat in the last photo.

Gear! (Gear!), Thursday, 27 May 2004 17:51 (twenty-one years ago)

That cat guy looks like Mike Patton.

deanomgwtf!!!p%3Fmsgid%3D4581997 (deangulberry), Thursday, 27 May 2004 17:52 (twenty-one years ago)

or the brother that Dave Grohl keeps locked away in his attic

Gear! (Gear!), Thursday, 27 May 2004 17:53 (twenty-one years ago)

I never ever had plugs but I did have romulan hair

I need to get a picture of Paul Major for this thread.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 27 May 2004 17:56 (twenty-one years ago)

I actually fear for that cat in the last photo.

It could be worse -- he could be owned by #2 in the photo list. Yes, he's a number two.

JC-L (JC-L), Thursday, 27 May 2004 18:01 (twenty-one years ago)

JC-L (JC-L), Thursday, 27 May 2004 18:11 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't ever want to even talk to, none the less sodomize, someone with plugs. Most ill-conceived, ugliest fashion trend ever.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Thursday, 27 May 2004 18:19 (twenty-one years ago)

What the hell are plugs?

Just don't keep your records in plastic bags, you'll be fine.

sexyDancer, Thursday, 27 May 2004 20:18 (twenty-one years ago)

=(

Gear! (Gear!), Thursday, 27 May 2004 20:20 (twenty-one years ago)

I agree with that. Also, don't be afraid to sell stuff that you don't love and never listen to. You can always get it again eight years later if you become interested in it again.

Tim Ellison, Thursday, 27 May 2004 20:21 (twenty-one years ago)

See I'm always trading stuff in and I'm rarely buying stuff these days. But I still have a ton of music, half of it records HOUSED IN PLASTIC SLEEVES I'M DOOMED

i also have spent 3-5 hrs in 3 record stores in the past 2 days w/o buying anything. i love digging, but i want to move soon and my house is already overflowing w/stuff.

jaxon, Sunday, 26 June 2011 06:26 (fourteen years ago)

Hawaiian shirts are manly and all-purpose. Shop away.

Leonard Pine, Sunday, 26 June 2011 07:22 (fourteen years ago)

Please I love these people. As long as they appreciate the history of the items and are not just spending $80 on something for the dollar value of it, it's cool.

two years pass...

wow, more info also here:

http://www.audiophilerecords.ca/hoarder-house-full-of-records/

The best thing there? The 45′s, about 20,000 on shelves, mostly all original ‘as new’ store stock Rock & roll & Rockabilly, and oddball stuff, plus hundreds of Pristine EPs ranging from Elvis, Ricky Nelson, Country Artists, to the Rare Carl Perkins Columbia EP.
