On May 21, 2004 a bunch of Japanese children that had been kidnapped in the late 70's and early 80's were released along with their families...
Now we all know Damo Suzuki left CAN in 1973 soon after recording Future Days to become a Jehova's Witness. A perfect front (a Watchtower with very few exterior facing windows) for someone to steal the reigning Shogun of Krautrock, and given Suzuki's wanderlust and panache for enigma this wouldn't have seemed all that strange. He just dissapeared for nearly a decade... In 1983 he resurfaced to play shows with Dunkelziffer and in 1997 he gave birth to (a 9 pound!) Damo Suzuki Network/Band soon after the release of the Live in 1985 Dunkelziffer album.
WHAT IF: this legendarily Krautrocker was among the Japanese kidnapped by the N. Koreans to train spies with. Does this explains the relative obscurity of post-CAN Kenji Suzuki? Whatever happened to his faith in Jehova and whatnot? Was it stolen by Kim Jong-Il's RED BASTARDS ? Did he act as father figure to the roughly estimated 13-15 Japanese children held incommunicado until yesterday? And how sure are we that "Charles Robert Jenkins" (if that is even his real name) wasn't sent to N. Korea to protect the future of West German music, and that Mr. Jenkins is being prevented from returning to Japan with his wife Hitomi Soga because he KNOWS that the REAL Damo Suzuki died in N. Korea sometime during the 1970's? Did Charles Robert Jenkins failure to save Damo Suzuki trigger his defection to the North Korea? Is 1983-Present Damo Suzuki a cheap North Korean imitation of the prolific and mysterious Kenji "Damo" Suzuki?
