Well, Motorhead were named after a Lemmy-era Hawkwing song, which was then adopted as their own theme song, so I think that qualifies.

M Carty (mj_c), Friday, 28 May 2004 11:46 (twenty-one years ago)

black sabbath

mclaugh (mclaugh), Friday, 28 May 2004 11:48 (twenty-one years ago)

wait, Lemmy was in Hawkwind?

Be sure to Loop! Loop, Loop, Loop. (ex machina), Friday, 28 May 2004 11:48 (twenty-one years ago)

madness. ok, not exactly, but bloody close. b-side was 'its madness'. i think.

mark e (mark e), Friday, 28 May 2004 11:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Who do you think sang "Silver Machine"? Michael Moorcock? Xpost again, dammit!!!!!!!!!

Dadaismus (Dada), Friday, 28 May 2004 11:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, he was. I'm not one of those types to list endless old thread titles, but there was one once called some thing like 'Taking sides: lemmy era hawkwind vs etc etc'.

rainman (rainman), Friday, 28 May 2004 12:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Madness had two: Madness (the prince buster song as a b-side), and "Madness (is all in the mind)" another b-side.

(anyone beat two? exclude the clash)

Hmm, After one of their own songs....

Daisy Chainsaw had a song with "Daisy Chainsaw" as the chorus, but it wasn't called that.

Also the dead boys, similar, with "All this and more"

mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 28 May 2004 12:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Motorhead have 'We are Motorhead' as well. But I think that counts more as song named after band than band named after song.

M Carty (mj_c), Friday, 28 May 2004 12:34 (twenty-one years ago)

This thread has reminded me of a vague and potentially addled memory of seeing Primal Scream at their Xmas all-night concert at Brixton in 1994. I'm sure they did a song called Primal Scream that I've never heard anywhere else. Anyone else see them around that time and remember that song?

They also did another one with the (presumably Nas-inspired) chorus 'Life's a bitch and then you die/ that's why you get high', which I've not heard ever again.

Any advances?

M Carty (mj_c), Friday, 28 May 2004 12:43 (twenty-one years ago)

errr..... slowdive

rentboy (rentboy), Friday, 28 May 2004 12:45 (twenty-one years ago)

i was just gonna say them, although i like to think they really got the name from the siouxsie song

zebedee (zebedee), Friday, 28 May 2004 12:48 (twenty-one years ago)

The Immaculate Fools.

I'm not sure whether Major Mackerel invented his name to match his "Mackerel In a Tin" single but I'd recommend that record to anyone. I think Horseman became Horseman because of "Horsemove", another classic.

the kanji for "ooi" = "many"

ooioo = "oh oh eye oh oh" (EY3 named them as such)

it's a pun.

gygax! (gygax!), Friday, 28 May 2004 16:03 (twenty-one years ago)

What's the deal with the kanji track though?

Be sure to Loop! Loop, Loop, Loop. (ex machina), Friday, 28 May 2004 16:08 (twenty-one years ago)

erp, Green Day....you guys already got most of the ones I know....Nirvana says their name a bunch of times in Paper Cuts but I don't suppose that counts.

Oh and I'll confirm that Belle and Sebastian has an eponymous track, zebedee, it's the last song on the Dog on Wheels ep.
