someone had to say it.

No they don't. The worst was in Death Cab For Cutie - Nathan Good, who wasn't. (har har)

I could add that I liked them despite.

Kim, Saturday, 10 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

worse than the guy in dismemberment plan?

bob snoom, Saturday, 10 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

ouch! Joe can be kinda sloppy live, true, but his beats are pretty inventive.

pretty much any weakass wet noodle indie rock rhythm section gets my goat. too many to name, reall

al, Saturday, 10 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

ivebeen listening to their live recordings all day and i have to say he is the bands weakest link. they would rule the world if they had someone good.

chaka, Saturday, 10 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Bob, what the fuck? D-Plan's drummer is ace; I'm not even sure how you could say he sucks based on some unconventional approach he has to drumming, either (like you could about Mo Tucker)--he's a "good drummer" in a muso sense, as well as being a propulsive and rhythmically interesting backbone for the band.

I have to admit, for all the greatness of the album, the drumming on 'Isn't Anything' starts to get to me after a while if I concentrate on it--disruptive snare fills on EVERY fourth beat it seems like sometimes...

Clarke B., Saturday, 10 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I thought that the drumming on Pink Flag was really weird but then I realized it was AWESUM

brains, Saturday, 10 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

doesn't gybe! have 2 drummers? so which one are we singling out as the worst? or are they both bad? not that i think either are, seen them twice now,and thought the whole group was great!

worst drummer has to be whomever drummed on big blacks first records ;-)

william harris, Saturday, 10 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

i guess the one on the 'lift your skinny fists' tour. im still listening and its a really annoying style of playing drums.

chaki, Saturday, 10 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

why does anyone think jaki liebezeit is an exemplary drummer? i've always been so disapponted with can. pat wilson from weezer is better. todd trainer from shellac is better. the 2 kit attack of the fall circa eat yself fitter was ace! lack of "skill" doesn't have to mean it doesn't connect or have the funk. ziggy modeliste wasn't ever a-paradiddlin' all over the place was he?

bob snoom, Sunday, 11 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Actually, that's exactly what Zigaboo was doing. Bad-ass linear drumming that was so funky and smooth that it covered up any technical complexities.

Jordan, Sunday, 11 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

two years pass...
i was arguing with some asshead on SLSK.

[chaki!!!!!!!] i saw them with broadcast
[chaki!!!!!!!] and fuckin broadcast owned them
[chaki!!!!!!!] and they were the openers!!
[booobical] but theres so much depth in their music
[chaki!!!!!!!] i dunno seems derivative to me
[booobical] well, i dont see anyone else out there doing the same thing
[chaki!!!!!!!] theres lots of people being boring
[chaki!!!!!!!] sigur ros for example
[booobical] sigur ros is base
[booobical] they are so boring
[chaki!!!!!!!] word!
[booobical] and theyre boring and unfulfilling and unemotional, strictly to be that way
[booobical] i mean, i see godspeed as the existentialists band
[chaki!!!!!!!] haha
[booobical] its kind of like, the human spirit being expressed through music
[chaki!!!!!!!] haha
[booobical] showing that life is no good
[booobical] but we can actually get out of it
[chaki!!!!!!!] haha

anyway he went on to say my band sounded like a new age christian hoobastang.

hahaha 'sigur ros is base', someone call the vice squad

jake b. (cerybut), Saturday, 7 August 2004 14:31 (twenty-one years ago)

"why does anyone think jaki liebezeit is an exemplary drummer? i've always been so disapponted with can. pat wilson from weezer is better."

Jaki is like a funky drum machine--so incredibly precise, so metronomic, but with soul. If you can't feel it, then you are to be pitied. Listen to "Halleluwah," "Mother Sky" or "Vitamin C," if you doubt. I can't believe I even have to defend Jaki: It's like arguing for the benefits of receiving a blowjob.

blightersrock, Sunday, 8 August 2004 00:37 (twenty-one years ago)

On the other hand, people who prefer Weezer to Can clearly have hearing issues.

Which is cute.

noodle vague (noodle vague), Sunday, 8 August 2004 00:40 (twenty-one years ago)

'vitamin C' has some really tight bass drum patterns and great feel overall..if that can't change your mind about his drumming, then i don't know what could..

6335, Sunday, 8 August 2004 00:45 (twenty-one years ago)

agreed! my least favorite parts of godspeed's music are when the drummer "carries" the music "propulsively". the headline of this thread made me laugh.. the guy from can has great elastic and punchy feel i dunno how anyone could dislike it. hi bees

russignol, Sunday, 8 August 2004 01:50 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd never even thought about this until I saw this thread ... I never really listen to the drumming with GYBE. But I guess that's saying something about the quality of the drumming right there.

Barry Bruner (Barry Bruner), Sunday, 8 August 2004 02:57 (twenty-one years ago)

russignol was the one who introduced me to can (by way of 'vitamin c', actually) hi russl & thanks for the vitamins/nutrients. i've never really noticed the gybe drummer either.. i don't know if that's good or bad. i definitely like pat wilson more, though

6335, Sunday, 8 August 2004 06:43 (twenty-one years ago)

five months pass...
broadcast is probably the most underrated live act in the history of music.

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 26 January 2005 21:14 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah they're pretty great

That's funny, because I was in a band with the best drummer I ever played with, and the rest of us said we never really listened to his drumming. But we meant it as a compliment - he just permeated our minds and became part of everything we were playing. Lousy drummers, you have to listen to all the time: "What the heck's he doing now? Is he going to come out of this fill right?"
