gang of four never split up did they?

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 28 May 2004 15:56 (twenty-one years ago)

one can only hope they remember how to play all the songs on mall.

Well, that wasn't the original line-up, so it wouldn't be a concern (though "Cadillac" was a damn fine song, you HATER!)

Gang of Four did split up, yes.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 28 May 2004 15:57 (twenty-one years ago)

The original members, so they'll probably stick to this first two albums.

peepee (peepee), Friday, 28 May 2004 15:58 (twenty-one years ago)

thread title says "original line-up," therefore Go4 qualified for this thread since Songs Of The Free

hey, what if the Clash reunited with Keith Levene back in the fold!

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Friday, 28 May 2004 15:58 (twenty-one years ago)

that would be ghey.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 28 May 2004 15:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Have the Feelies ever reformed? -- or a second vote for Art Phag.

christoff (christoff), Friday, 28 May 2004 15:59 (twenty-one years ago)

...so Gang of Four it is then.

dave225 (Dave225), Friday, 28 May 2004 15:59 (twenty-one years ago)

.. although I think I vote for Public Image.

dave225 (Dave225), Friday, 28 May 2004 16:01 (twenty-one years ago)

aw shit! PiL reunion would kick ass!

Have the Feelies ever reformed?

yes, see "Doin' It Again" (what was the name of the album that was on?)

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 28 May 2004 16:06 (twenty-one years ago)

PiL lip-synching to Britney Spears songs behind a curtain...

Pashmina (Pashmina), Friday, 28 May 2004 16:08 (twenty-one years ago)

The Ramones

Despite the fact that two of said band's members have crossed the rubicon to their final rewards, it should also be noted that the thread asked for a POST-punk band.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 28 May 2004 16:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Alex in NYC, I was JOKING

Be sure to Loop! Loop, Loop, Loop. (ex machina), Friday, 28 May 2004 16:09 (twenty-one years ago)

woah woah woah, The Feelies original 1980 line up (with Anton Feir) never reunited. "Doin' It Again" was on 91's Time For A Witness, which had the same line up as the last two albums 88's Only Life and 86's The Good Earth.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Friday, 28 May 2004 16:09 (twenty-one years ago)

I know.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 28 May 2004 16:10 (twenty-one years ago)

well whatever, nobody expects Anton "journeyman" Fier to rejoin any band except Golden Palominos!

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 28 May 2004 16:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Last I heard, John King of Gang Of Four was working as managing director of a big London company that a friend's ex-boyfriend works at. It's not Marxist, but it's true.

Jason J, Friday, 28 May 2004 16:10 (twenty-one years ago)

one more for gang of four.

jed_ (jed), Friday, 28 May 2004 16:12 (twenty-one years ago)

slovenly!

dan (dan), Friday, 28 May 2004 16:12 (twenty-one years ago)

... ahhh, slovenly...

dave225 (Dave225), Friday, 28 May 2004 16:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Slint.

briania (briania), Friday, 28 May 2004 16:21 (twenty-one years ago)

they already re-formed once, sans Todd, but didn't do shit.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 28 May 2004 16:21 (twenty-one years ago)

rats.

briania (briania), Friday, 28 May 2004 16:23 (twenty-one years ago)

technically their first album wasn't by their original lineup!

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 28 May 2004 16:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Nation of Ulysses

rasheed wallace (rasheed wallace), Friday, 28 May 2004 16:28 (twenty-one years ago)

I second the request for Pylon.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Friday, 28 May 2004 16:33 (twenty-one years ago)

"The original members, so they'll probably stick to this first two albums."

Anyhow......its a true rumour.

peepee (peepee), Friday, 28 May 2004 16:33 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah Pylon coming back (for a second time) would fucking rule.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 28 May 2004 16:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh right, I always forget about Chain (even though I shouldn't).

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Friday, 28 May 2004 16:35 (twenty-one years ago)

you shouldn't! It's great! They were great on that tour too!

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 28 May 2004 16:36 (twenty-one years ago)

original line-up
reforming (for the first time)

peepee (peepee), Friday, 28 May 2004 16:40 (twenty-one years ago)

THE HOMOSEXUALS!!! BRUNO! ANTON! JIMMY! TOGETHER AGAIN!

Tim Ellison, Friday, 28 May 2004 16:43 (twenty-one years ago)

ah, so it is Gang of Four! yay!

ken taylrr (ken taylrr), Friday, 28 May 2004 16:43 (twenty-one years ago)

but wait. it would be totally Lydon to reform PiL at the height of post-punk resurgence madness

ken taylrr (ken taylrr), Friday, 28 May 2004 16:44 (twenty-one years ago)

come on. gotta be magazine. doesn't devoto work for some picture agency now? that fits.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 16:57 (twenty-one years ago)

It seems that the rest of the band is still trying to convince the singer, who is not associated with the music industry any more.

Is it Joy Division???

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 17:01 (twenty-one years ago)

ha ha OMG

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 17:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Woah. Anybody else ever post some flippant ha ha response to something, click 'submit' and then look at it only to see you have responded to the wrong thread? GUH.

McGeoch is dead, as mentioned upthread.

kephm, Wednesday, 22 September 2004 20:02 (twenty-one years ago)

The Ramones

The Ramones are almost reunited (I don't think we can hope for a tour though).

daavid (daavid), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 20:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Sharon, Lois, and Bram?

latebloomer (latebloomer), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 20:09 (twenty-one years ago)

the wh0re5?

kephm (kephm), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 20:12 (twenty-one years ago)

As much as Yanc3y wants it to be Go4, I still say it might be PiL. Although, for it be PiL, this statement must be revoked: "It seems that the rest of the band is still trying to convince the singer, who is not associated with the music industry any more."

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 20:33 (twenty-one years ago)

In PiL's case, I seriously doubt it would be the other band members doing the convincing.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 20:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Not cabs, Steven Mallinder's been doing some dubby stuff down in austrialia, right?

The Pop Group?

The Fire Engines?

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 20:43 (twenty-one years ago)

obviously this is a hoax

latebloomer (latebloomer), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 21:12 (twenty-one years ago)

No it's Gang of Four, according to some promoters sending them offers for LA. But I heard that in August and nothing more since.

Thea (Thea), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 21:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh. I was thinking of Andy Gill as singer of Go4 for some reason. I am very very happy to be wrong as wrong could be.

Woah. Anybody else ever post some flippant ha ha response to something, click 'submit' and then look at it only to see you have responded to the wrong thread? GUH.

Actually I thought it fit perfectly. The mental image of Barney, Peter and Stephen going out to Ian's grave every night trying to talk him into rising up out of the ground for a JD reunion is hilarious.

Bimble (bimble), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 21:26 (twenty-one years ago)

New Order actually made a joke to that degree in an interview once. Then again, the interviewer who asked them if they would ever do Joy Division songs live (which was asked not too long after Curtis died) deserved it. But yeah, Hook replied and laughed saying "Yeah, we fancy just digging him out and propping him up for a few songs then. Yea."

PrintScreen/SysReq, Wednesday, 22 September 2004 21:37 (twenty-one years ago)

come on. gotta be magazine. doesn't devoto work for some picture agency now? that fits.

McGeoch is dead, as mentioned upthread.

sorry. momentary idiocy there. i'm a dick.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Thursday, 23 September 2004 07:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Anyone know what Paul Haig is up to now?

NickB (NickB), Thursday, 23 September 2004 07:39 (twenty-one years ago)

The answer is...

Medium Medium. (from the comments attached to this blog-post.
(Troubled Diva: the blog the STARS read.)

mike t-diva (mike t-diva), Thursday, 23 September 2004 08:19 (twenty-one years ago)

The dBs

Akiva, Thursday, 23 September 2004 20:21 (twenty-one years ago)

I would not call Medium Medium "highly influential". And pee pee said he didn't think anyone would argue that the act in question was.

Bimble (bimble), Saturday, 2 October 2004 05:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Is it Yeah Yeah Noh?

Smart He Man Goblin, Saturday, 2 October 2004 06:24 (twenty-one years ago)

I've heard rumours that Paul Haig was going to tour, and that he may play with Malcolm Ross, but nothing about an actual Josef K. Tour. But that doesn't fit some of the above criteria, as he's been working on music non-stop, more or less.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Saturday, 2 October 2004 06:31 (twenty-one years ago)

That's right, Josef K is not an option.

Bimble (bimble), Saturday, 2 October 2004 06:54 (twenty-one years ago)

It's got to be Cardiac Arrest.

Peter "Zip" Boker, Phillip & Patty Pilf, Duncan Doilet and Little Bobby Shattocks - reunited at last!

Philip Alderman (Phil A), Saturday, 2 October 2004 08:03 (twenty-one years ago)

It's definitely the Gang of Four

Didoismus (Dada), Saturday, 2 October 2004 12:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Not what you might call "highly influential", but B-Movie have just reformed with their original line-up; their first gig took place last week.

mike t-diva (mike t-diva), Sunday, 3 October 2004 13:28 (twenty-one years ago)

The Fire Engines?

They reunited earlier this year and opened some shows for the Magic Band in the UK.

Vic Funk, Sunday, 3 October 2004 13:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Psychic TV are back together again too, but I don't think that is quite the post-punk of this thread.

___ (___), Sunday, 3 October 2004 15:24 (twenty-one years ago)

one month passes...
this just in! from a totally unnamed source from another list that i'm not at liberty to name, Gang of Four are having another go at it. Andy Gill has got em all back together.

ken taylrr (ken taylrr), Sunday, 7 November 2004 19:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Fire Engines supporting the Magic band at their Scottish gigs = amazing.
Latest is that they're supporting Franz Ferdinand at their huge Glasgow arena gig! That'll freak people out. Nice one FF!

stew s, Monday, 8 November 2004 00:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Looks like it might be official!
They all must have finally convinced Jon!

peepee (peepee), Wednesday, 10 November 2004 17:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Hurray for this! And also for the Amazing Kreskin who called this one perfectly upthread:

Slint.
-- briania (lyriclas...), May 28th, 2004.

Thank you, you're too kind.

briania (briania), Wednesday, 10 November 2004 19:42 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm surprised at how anti-climatic this is for everyone.

peepee (peepee), Thursday, 11 November 2004 00:30 (twenty-one years ago)

well, i'm pretty excited about it, provided they come over here. but looking back through the thread, and the numerous times we guessed Gang of Four, it seems we were getting quite used to the idea of them reforming. but like i say, peepee... if they play windsor, i'll be there with ya, front row center.

ken taylrr (ken taylrr), Thursday, 11 November 2004 00:48 (twenty-one years ago)

At this point, I almost think I'd rather see the Hard-era Gang of Four.. I think the original line-up is too much nostalgia .. it'll never come off as genuine... You can't go home again.

dave225 (Dave225), Thursday, 11 November 2004 00:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Its fairly safe to assume that they'll come to NAmerica (thatis, if they don't hate each other after the UK gigs) because the guy who was the catalyst for the whole thing was from over here.

I've seen them 5 times, but none of those were with Dave Allen. I'm pretty excited about that (even though there's no chance in hell that they're playing Windsor again). I'm thinking it'll be only 6-10 dates over here. We'll see.

peepee (peepee), Thursday, 11 November 2004 01:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Actually, despite the fact that the answer has now been revealed, the REAL answer is the Poppies.

Peter Hollo (raven), Thursday, 11 November 2004 11:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Ahem, kof kof....

It's definitely the Gang of Four

peepee (peepee), Monday, 15 November 2004 14:38 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm not sure I even noticed this thread, much less got excited about it -- but I'd rather someone have been raised from the dead.

Naive Teen Idol (Naive Teen Idol), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 03:44 (twenty-one years ago)

one year passes...
So wait, was it the Cars after all?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 14 March 2006 18:52 (nineteen years ago)

Although I suppose with a dead bandmember that'll be hard.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 14 March 2006 19:00 (nineteen years ago)

Though now that I think about it, that OMD news works.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 14 March 2006 19:00 (nineteen years ago)

The Cars were never too exciting live to begin with so I don't think anyone will notice they have a dead member in the band.

Jeff K (jeff k), Tuesday, 14 March 2006 19:02 (nineteen years ago)

um...The Gang of Four?? Do I win summat?

dr lulu (dr lulu), Tuesday, 14 March 2006 21:16 (nineteen years ago)

*peers upthread* Hmm, peepee did confirm it here after all. Odd, I thought he had denied it elsewhere and said it was someone else.
