Joan of Arse...

I've heard them mentioned a few times around here. So, I got their new album "distant hearts, a little closer"...and was surprised, because they are like a mixture of Zuma era Neil Young and early sub pop...really good! Better than their misleading name (I was imagining smutty school boy humour, until I saw the album cover!)...Also, does anyone know if they brits or american?...

Classic or dud, like 'em or nay? etc...

Irish. Very very handsome drummer. Nice boys. Music ain't too bad either.

I [heart] Joan of Arse, dunno about the drummer being handsome though, surely that bloke from the Dudley Corporation is the real handsome devil of Irish indie-glitterati tub-thumpers?

I did notice a poor review of Joan of Arse on this website http://www.inksyndicate.com/rock.htm

----------

There was a time when Joan Of Arse was thought to be the future of rock. Listen for the run-of-the-mill balladry of "Death Perception" next time you go in for a root canal. Do these guys really need more money? Singing about prayer in school in the radio-friendly "Spandex Woman," the singer sounds like he's having about as much fun as a dying hyena. Even the playful production by Brian Eno, and a steady supply of lament can't save No Known Cure, envisioned as a song cycle about girls who are really messed up and strange women uttering strange truths.

On the superficial live bonus track "She Said," Joan Of Arse sounds like they're having a great time, unlike the audience. When the singer sings about the fact that Star Trek has sucked since 1990, the result is purely self-conscious. I liked it better when it was called Pearl Jam's Greatest Hits. Strictly for masochists.

---------- Well its better written that some reviewers I could mention but I don't think its being fair there. Anyone else agree?

Wait, you guys know Dudley? A great, great fellow. Hopefully if international air travel isn't so taboo then, I might try and make it out to the All Tomorrow's Parties UK thing next year and finally get to meet the man...

How about JOAN OF ASS, the feelthy Lolita Storm side-project?

electric sound of jim, Monday, 21 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

one month passes...
joan of ass is so stupid its funny. lolita storm's romy screaming over disastronaut's crack head roland 303 beats - cocaine is a classic and is funny as...apparently they are working on joan of ass 2 -although the runours can't be confirmed...
