So I want to go to the Mclusky show in Denver, only I'm underage. Are bouncers at shows more or less receptive to fake IDs than the ones at clubs?

its a case by case situation. this is a stupid question.

what? can there be no consensus, even among a single person?
Or maybe i'm just looking for people who've been to the larimer lounge in denver.

It's not a stupid question theoretically, just the way it is asked. I actually helped someone out in denver recently who had this very problem. If you really want to go you should call the club or promoter. Most clubs will allow under 21s in as long as they are with a parent or legal guardian...if you can handle the shame of being seen by your favorite band hanging out with your parents!

wow, I just realized that made me look like i'm 14 or something.
Seriously though, there has to be a better way...

I just turned 21 three weeks ago. I no longer have sympathy for your plight.

This is somethine that happens more in the States?

Here in the UK: You'll be lucky to have someone on the door unless its a show where the band may be in some sort of danger (joan of arc or aphex or someone). This person will be super cool anyway, he's on the door for fucks sake, he's pretty much in the band! Luckily for us young-uns, he'll be far more interested in what you are wearing than if you're over 18 or 21 or whatever.

Be 21.

Sonny A. OTM.. Go down to the club ahead of time & ask if there's some way you can get in.. Or write the band or accost them as they're loading in. Someone will get you in somehow. Fake ID not recommended. Make friends with the opening act (by telling them that you think they totally rock or whatever and/or give them some cash) - they can get you in through the back door..

Just know someone in the band and come inside with them. DON'T voluntarily tell them you're under 21.

(x-posts...Stencil otm)

In high school I got kicked out of a Thinking Fellers show twice, only to sneak back in a third time, didn't miss their set.

seven years pass...

I saw Roky Erickson at a club tonight. The show was listed as "21 +". As I approached the door, this group of 4 young bohos/hippies (2 boy-girl couples) came up to me. The cuter of the two girls asked me about the ticket in my hand and how did I get it. I told her that they could go around the corner and get them at this record store if they weren't already sold out. She thanked me and the group dashed off towards the shop.

I go into the club and am hanging by the door when I see that these kids have returned and are in discussion w/the doorman. One of the boys has let slip they are all 18 and also that one of them doesn't even have an id to prove that much. The doorman refuses them entry and I don't see them again.*

I got to thinking about how much easier it was when I was that age. I'd get my hands marked or a wristband and away I went. But now there's so much regulations against things like that. It kinda sucks to be a young music fan today.

*I should note that I don't know if they were able to get tickets from the record store. If they had though, I imagine there would have been a bigger stink about being denied an already paid admission.
