mark p (Mark P), Tuesday, 1 June 2004 17:59 (twenty-one years ago)

yes, it seems to take an eternity to find anything at the moment.

noodle vague (noodle vague), Tuesday, 1 June 2004 18:00 (twenty-one years ago)

I figure everyone's using the new version.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 1 June 2004 18:01 (twenty-one years ago)

which I now know exists.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 1 June 2004 18:01 (twenty-one years ago)

ive stopped using it. i think its gone the way of kazaa.

thesplooge (thesplooge), Tuesday, 1 June 2004 18:34 (twenty-one years ago)

you have no chance to survive make your time

57 7th (calstars), Tuesday, 1 June 2004 18:58 (twenty-one years ago)

this is how to do it: get a whole bunch of people that share good music, rip new music, etc. then, use the search my userlist function. presto. i havent used the general search since slsk came out with this userlist search function. general search doesnt work for me anymore. o well. my userlist search is producing results better than i can ever remeber slsk doing. good luck.

ere, Tuesday, 1 June 2004 19:07 (twenty-one years ago)

if not slsk then what, I downloaded it, but it doesn't seem to work. is it now all about Winmx?

lukey (Lukey G), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 07:41 (twenty years ago)

ive stopped using it. i think its gone the way of kazaa.

?! it's as good as ever (ie just about perfect) for me...

toby (tsg20), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 07:56 (twenty years ago)

same for me. got the smiths south bank show 2 nights ago, and spent an hour watching it with my mouth hanging open. fckng brilliant.
god bless slsk. and the smiths. and melvyn bragg for that matter!

piscesboy, Wednesday, 2 June 2004 12:18 (twenty years ago)

i've found search results to be poor for some time and so little is not heavily queued, hrmmm

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 16:07 (twenty years ago)

the search is a bit poorer this last week or two, but I get round that by searching related stuff and then browsing the user's files so I usually find what I'm looking for.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 16:10 (twenty years ago)

it's frustrating that more people aren't having this problem. i've been getting nothing for over a week now, and i wish more people would say something. i installed the new version but that certainly didn't help.

tod (tod), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 16:28 (twenty years ago)

same here. thank god for my userlist or id be hitting a serious drought.

Felonious Drunk (Felcher), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 16:30 (twenty years ago)

wait, something just turned up! i did a search for 'Beatles' and there's a 128kb Rick Wakeman version of "Eleanor Rigby" available for d/l!

tod (tod), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 16:31 (twenty years ago)

also my new version keeps saying random shit like "returned search results for search term loudhorrn" or "returned search results for search term lifetime", at the bottom.

wtf is this?

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 17:23 (twenty years ago)

I couldn't connect all morning (don't know if I can connect now, I'm at work). maybe something is very screwy.

kyle (akmonday), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 17:25 (twenty years ago)

still fine here...

re long queues: you do have privileges, don't you, steve?! i've still not had to wait more than 24 hours for anything, usuall more like 5 mins.

toby (tsg20), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 21:00 (twenty years ago)

i had problems with searches - then i paid for privileges and 10 mins later pages & pages of search results...hmm

zappi (joni), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 21:06 (twenty years ago)

i've never paid a cent and i get gobs of results. i have a hard time believing nir would try something underhanded...

common_person (common_person), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 21:09 (twenty years ago)

Ronan, that ticker below shows "incoming searches", ie people searching through your files.

Siegbran (eofor), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 21:18 (twenty years ago)

i've donated twice but not noticed a significant improvement, weird

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 21:20 (twenty years ago)

twice in the past i mean, on separate occasions

corrective stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 21:21 (twenty years ago)

slsk board says there has been a privilages problem and everything is being processed manually

also, am I correct in reading that getting banned actually affects your ability to log on to slsk? I thought it only kept you from downloading from the user that banned you, but apparently not.

kyle (akmonday), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 21:22 (twenty years ago)

also, am I correct in reading that getting banned actually affects your ability to log on to slsk? I thought it only kept you from downloading from the user that banned you, but apparently not.

What? I've been banned before, and I've never had a problem

King Kobra (King Kobra), Thursday, 3 June 2004 04:21 (twenty years ago)

kazaa lite still totally owns it hard

David Allen (David Allen), Thursday, 3 June 2004 04:24 (twenty years ago)

there are two kinds of banned - banned by users, and banned by slsk (i think the latter only happens if you use lots of login ids from the same ip, or spam rooms or similar dodgy behaviour).

toby (tsg20), Thursday, 3 June 2004 05:46 (twenty years ago)

clearly other people are having this issue:

http://slskboard.savagenews.com/index.php?showtopic=17561

i imagine it'll all clear up soon.

toby (tsg20), Thursday, 3 June 2004 05:49 (twenty years ago)

so installing the new version won't necessarily make things better for me?

m. (mitchlnw), Friday, 4 June 2004 18:18 (twenty years ago)

am i a fool for just waiting for it to fix itself? is it going to be necessary to intervene at some point by attempting to fix this or something? the message boards are no help, they just keep referring me back to other threads on the same message board. All this router / firewall talk is Japanese to me. And I'm searching BEATLES and getting nothing. Can't even connect now.

roger adultery (roger adultery), Saturday, 5 June 2004 06:18 (twenty years ago)

m. if I were you I would not download the new version. I have noticed less search results, and the damn server keeps going down and then when it comes up it acts like I just donated (I did weeks ago!) and now the server is down again and I'm just about to put a gun to my head because I read the dirty disco thread and I need to investigate all this disco stuff I hadn't heard of before and DAMN!!!! BASTARD!!!
Soulseek are becoming like Windows: don't mess with new versions because if it ain't broke don't fucking fix it.

Bimble (bimble), Saturday, 5 June 2004 06:29 (twenty years ago)

I can't connect at all at the moment. Is version 152 the latest one?

Michael Dubsky, Saturday, 5 June 2004 06:36 (twenty years ago)

the server is down. 154test1 here.

tod (tod), Saturday, 5 June 2004 06:44 (twenty years ago)

how is it for everyone today?

piscesboy, Wednesday, 9 June 2004 17:04 (twenty years ago)

not connecting. and when it does, no search results.

Felonious Drunk (Felcher), Wednesday, 9 June 2004 17:08 (twenty years ago)

i got Tan Dun's soundtrack for "Hero" last night at about 8kbps.

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 9 June 2004 17:14 (twenty years ago)

HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO WRITE WHEN STUPID RECORD COMPANIES WONT SEND ME STUPID PROMOS AND I CANT GET STUPID SLSK TO WORK

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 9 June 2004 17:40 (twenty years ago)

just make it up!

mookieproof (mookieproof), Wednesday, 9 June 2004 17:41 (twenty years ago)

haha i think that's why matos fired meltzer in the first place

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 9 June 2004 17:43 (twenty years ago)

I have noticed that searches don't seem to produce as many results as they used to, I don't know if it's a flaw in the system or if there's just not as many people sharing files.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Wednesday, 9 June 2004 18:00 (twenty years ago)

it's partly because when people update to the new version, it automatically unshares your files and you have to go change the settings in "file sharing configuration" to your liking. but that cant explain the desert we've got now.

Felonious Drunk (Felcher), Wednesday, 9 June 2004 18:16 (twenty years ago)

that's true! BUT, there is something weird going on, because no-one had downloaded anything from me in over a day, which is highly unusual. I don't think my stuff is showing up on searches. Also, I was getting those little readouts at the bottom when my stuff had come up in searches, and that hasn't been happening for the past two days.

kyle (akmonday), Thursday, 10 June 2004 02:32 (twenty years ago)

massive xpost

bimble, im glad youre enjoying.
so far the best one was that rephlex reprint of black devil. SO MUCH VOCODER

emma cleveland (emma cleveland), Thursday, 10 June 2004 03:02 (twenty years ago)

Been getting zero results lately too. Updated to 154test3, and had a little more success.

I then started adding people to my userlist and all of the sudden results started popping up. I think it might of been a coincedence. But this 0 results things is indeed frustrating.

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Thursday, 10 June 2004 14:36 (twenty years ago)

Piscesboy, I'd be very interested to download that smiths show but I can't get it on slsk : could I download it from you ?

AleXTC (AleXTC), Thursday, 10 June 2004 14:43 (twenty years ago)

piscesboy, Thursday, 10 June 2004 15:05 (twenty years ago)

I'm on slsk and winmx : how could we do "transfer" ?

AleXTC (AleXTC), Thursday, 10 June 2004 15:10 (twenty years ago)

hmm. i'm not at home for a few hours,
so i can't start up my winmx/ slsk yet.

piscesboy, Thursday, 10 June 2004 15:44 (twenty years ago)

the problem is with faulty and overstretched parent nodes.

s>c>, Thursday, 10 June 2004 16:42 (twenty years ago)

i'm finding shedloads of Nurse With Wound and Henry Cow now that i paid them the $5 fee

mentalist (mentalist), Friday, 11 June 2004 01:37 (twenty years ago)

I've read on the soulseek board that people who had paid the 5 fee were having much better success with their searches. The past week or so was turning up nothing for me, but today it seems to be back to normal

atom, Friday, 11 June 2004 01:50 (twenty years ago)

I started paying the $5 in the spring of '03 and haven't been able to tolerate using slsk w/o the benefits since.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Friday, 11 June 2004 01:52 (twenty years ago)

i want to hear more about overstretched parent nodes. s>c>, can you point me to a slsk discussion board or something? i had one bookmarked but it doesn't work anymore

common_person (common_person), Friday, 11 June 2004 01:55 (twenty years ago)

alextc if u r looking for the smiths south bank show i'm on slsk right now!

piscesboy, Friday, 11 June 2004 09:04 (twenty years ago)

seven months pass...
It's happening again. Trying to put together CDR Go! 1971 and it took me ages to find Bobby Byrd's "Hot Pants (I'm Coming, I'm Coming)" -- inexplicable, since not only is it a pretty big soul classic but it's also on ubiquitous soundtracks like GTA: San Andreas and Snatch.

As a test, I did a search for "ramones blitzkrieg bop". Three minutes later: NOTHING.

What's this place, Biblevania? (natepatrin), Saturday, 29 January 2005 20:43 (twenty years ago)

i've spent 4 minutes looking for bright eyes. Overexposed my ass!
what a setup

tremendoid (tremendoid), Saturday, 29 January 2005 20:54 (twenty years ago)

And the support thread consists almost entirely of some oblivious jackass lecturing everyone on how it's the users' fault, followed eventually by some German dude posting endless pictures of Riker from Star Trek. Real helpful.

ANGRY SMASH DESTROY

What's this place, Biblevania? (natepatrin), Saturday, 29 January 2005 20:58 (twenty years ago)

yes, there's something wrong. slsk also updated itself when I launched it this morning, which is weird.

kyle (akmonday), Saturday, 29 January 2005 21:00 (twenty years ago)

keep tryin kids it's just glitchy.
mind you an hour to get 'standing in the shadows of love' is a bit much.

piscesboy, Saturday, 29 January 2005 21:09 (twenty years ago)

DAMMIT OH WHERE ARE THE STIV BATORS TRACKS

kingfish muffminer 2049er (Kingfish), Saturday, 29 January 2005 21:12 (twenty years ago)

it's been weirdly in-and-out good days/bad days lately, i've found changing your port works but to be honest i could be fooling myself there.

j blount (papa la bas), Saturday, 29 January 2005 23:59 (twenty years ago)

whatcha lookin for, kingfish?
