Inspired by Matt Helgeson's post on "Why isn't it on the songlist at the local karaoke bar?".

Mine is Radiohead's "Creep". Easy to find in every karaoke bar, known by almost everyone, and it has that intense moment where I can shine (or maybe not). :)

What about you, people? Be honest.

I always like to stand by the exit door at karaoke.

el Huckle-huckle-Buck (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 1 June 2004 18:19 (twenty-one years ago)

the Sweet "Ballroom Blitz"

always a crowd pleaser.

Shakey Mo Collier, Tuesday, 1 June 2004 18:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Ill-advised karaoke numbers I have attempted: "The Thong Song", "Ms Jackson", "Ignition (Remix)"

noodle vague (noodle vague), Tuesday, 1 June 2004 18:22 (twenty-one years ago)

If they don't have the Sweet tune, standby alternatives are Bowie's "Young Americans" or Blondie's "Heart of Glass". Falsetto songs are fun.

Shakey Mo Collier, Tuesday, 1 June 2004 18:24 (twenty-one years ago)

My karaoke standby is "What's Love Got To Do With It" -- Tina Turner

cramedog, Tuesday, 1 June 2004 18:42 (twenty-one years ago)

"surrender," although it doesn't do my upper register justice

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Tuesday, 1 June 2004 18:44 (twenty-one years ago)

"I Think I Love You." It doesn't have very many notes.

Joseph McCombs, Tuesday, 1 June 2004 20:22 (twenty-one years ago)

"When Doves Cry", of course.

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 1 June 2004 20:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Haven't done it in years, but "With or Without You" and "Proud Mary".

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Tuesday, 1 June 2004 20:29 (twenty-one years ago)

"fortunate son"

autovac (autovac), Tuesday, 1 June 2004 21:16 (twenty-one years ago)

"Dust in the Wind"
(long instrumental passage good for posed brooding)

sexyDancer, Tuesday, 1 June 2004 21:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Common People

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 1 June 2004 21:34 (twenty-one years ago)

or U Can't Touch This

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 1 June 2004 21:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Freak Like Me (Adina Howard version).

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 1 June 2004 21:44 (twenty-one years ago)

"Whip It" and "War Pigs" (fuck was I impressed when I found War Pigs was available at a local karaoke place).

Bryan (Bryan), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 01:33 (twenty-one years ago)

"Footloose"

C0L1N B3CK3TT (Colin Beckett), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 01:34 (twenty-one years ago)

right said fucking fred. too sexy.

andrew l. r. (allocryptic), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 01:38 (twenty-one years ago)

My girlfriend does "Private Dancer". I do "All By Myself". Or "MacArthur Park", depending on how dramatic I'm feeling...

Naive Teen Idol (Naive Teen Idol), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 01:48 (twenty-one years ago)

I always do Prince's "Kiss," because I can actually hit the high falsetto notes...

Douglas (Douglas), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 02:46 (twenty-one years ago)

"Hey Hey What Can I Do" -- that long fade allows for lots of ad libbing. I once fit a chorus of "Love Me Two Times" in there; someone had butchered it earlier in the evening. "Family Tradition." "Back Stabbers."

Rickey Wright (Rrrickey), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 03:11 (twenty-one years ago)

s1ocki (slutsky), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 03:14 (twenty-one years ago)

'Sittin' by the Dock of the Bay'

'Maggie May'

'The Weight'

Debito (Debito), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 04:41 (twenty-one years ago)

"My Girl" because it's damn easy and every single karaoke place I've ever been always has it. Also "Sukiyaki", japanese version, cos it's fun to try, and the karaoke places out here in singapore don't usually have the english version...

Jacob (Jacob), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 04:41 (twenty-one years ago)

"Disease" by Matchbox 20. Why? "Cause I'm DRUNK, that's why

Morley Timmons (Donna Brown), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 04:43 (twenty-one years ago)

'light my fire' / 'break on through' - the doors
'she's not there' - the zombies

chris andrews (fraew), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 04:49 (twenty-one years ago)

"She's Got You" "By the Time I Get To Phoenix" and "Margaritaville"
The place I go to is called - really - Cafe Bong. They've got tunes in eight languages, including a version of the Stones' Angie (in English, of course) that's like 3x speeded up, and really hard to sing.

Mike Dixon (Mike Dixon), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 10:07 (twenty-one years ago)

- "Mack The Knife" - Bobby Darin

- "We Gotta Get Out of This Place" - Animals

- "My Sharona" - The Knack

- "Wicheta Lineman" - Glan Campbell

- "By the Time I Get To Arizona" - Public Enemy (just try it)

Huey (Huey), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 10:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Sweet Child Of Mine.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 10:30 (twenty-one years ago)

"Tainted Love", every damn time. Mind you, "Everybody Hurts" makes everybody hurt when I do it.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 10:33 (twenty-one years ago)

It makes me puke when Michael Stipe does it

Dadaismus (Dada), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 10:37 (twenty-one years ago)

There's no excuse for Everybody Hurts karaoke - its one step away from Wonderwall.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 10:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Everybody Hates

Buster (mokey), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 10:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Wonderwall karaoke is great fun.

Debito (Debito), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 11:10 (twenty-one years ago)
