Did anyone else sign up to be an 'allmusic insider'? Looks like there are going to be some changes coming up w/the site. All of us insiders can discuss them here.

christhamrin (christhamrin), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 18:18 (twenty-one years ago)

What is an Allmusic insider?

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 18:39 (twenty-one years ago)

(How do you get to be one, etc.?)

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 18:39 (twenty-one years ago)

You have to be invited, and go through hazing, and be anti-semetic but you eventually get to be president, like that one Skull and Bones thing.

David Allen (David Allen), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 18:41 (twenty-one years ago)

They're going to review the new Ned CD

HAMBURGER NEURON GROUP (ex machina), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 18:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Yowsa!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 18:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Look on the right of the homepage and do some clickin' and typin'.

Everyone can join!

christhamrin (christhamrin), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 18:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, I see ... I dunno, it seems kinda lame!

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 18:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah I think it sort of is. But I signed up anyway.

christhamrin (christhamrin), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 19:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Ha ha! This thread is funny. All the times I've ever gone to AMG I've been in such a haste to type in a group/album/song's name that I never bothered with anything else on that page. Checking it out, now I realize I've seen that link before, though. Sure sounds like they just want to pump you full of ads, though.

Bimble (bimble), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 19:18 (twenty-one years ago)

XPOST

Not to shift the course here, but can Mr. Allen please back up the above reference to Bush being anti-semetic, because I've only ever read/heard reports to the contrary. I think Bush is horrible, and I'd love to pin all possible racist offenses on him, but with the very pro "bulldoze away, Israel" stance in the White House, I'd like to know where this is all coming from, because the only "anti" I see with Bush is "-Arab"....well, and -gay and -choice and on and on....

jsoulja (jsoulja), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 19:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Also, isn't it "Semitic"?

jsoulja (jsoulja), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 19:31 (twenty-one years ago)

for jsoulja:

The known report of the Bush family's anti-semitism is that "W" himself fell in love with a Jewish woman and was set to marry her, and his family essentially let it be known that they would not approve. It would be bad for his political career (a sad fact), and so he acquiesced. Everyone loves Laura Bush, though, so it all works out in the end!

Richard K., Wednesday, 2 June 2004 20:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Thanks, Richard. I haven't heard that story. I'd continue on with some additional questions, but I already believe that the GOP itself is inherently racist, so why bother, especially in an All Music thread.

Is that Vermont? I went to school there- beautiful state.

jsoulja (jsoulja), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 20:18 (twenty-one years ago)

I wish that you could click on a link and open it in another window like in the old days!!!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 20:21 (twenty-one years ago)

i am part of the insider club, simple just sign up for the weekly AMG new releases e-mail and click opt in to be "an insider" for upfront AMG news.

DJ Martian (djmartian), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 20:55 (twenty-one years ago)

im x-sight-dead about this. am i the only one who, on occassion, signing onto amg magically found 30 second sound clips sprinkled about the site only to find them gone within 30 minutes? this has happened to me more than once.

tom cleveland (tom cleveland), Thursday, 3 June 2004 00:59 (twenty-one years ago)

FWIW, GWB's grandfather Prescott Bush did extensive business with Nazi Germany up through November 1942.

Elvis Telecom (Chris Barrus), Thursday, 3 June 2004 02:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Hmm. That's strange, Tom.

Bimble (bimble), Thursday, 3 June 2004 03:13 (twenty-one years ago)

".... can Mr. Allen please back up the above reference to Bush being anti-semetic...."

"Also, isn't it "Semitic"?"

Actually I think it's probably semantic, since Mr. Bush has repeatedly demonstrated his opposition to linguistics, grammar and the possibility of there being any actual meaning to any of the words he uses.

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Thursday, 3 June 2004 08:12 (twenty-one years ago)

no, it's happened to me too. i figured it was some kind of AMG writer privilege that i wasn't supposed to see.

tod (tod), Thursday, 3 June 2004 08:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Happened to me too. Future echoes, of course.

Vinnie (vprabhu), Thursday, 3 June 2004 12:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Thats one of the things to be included in nu-allmusic. The searching is upoosed to be improved. There will also be more commentary from writers:

THE AMG VIEW. One thing you’ll notice on the new allmusic is a much more
front and center position for the views of the AMG editors. One thing
we’ve heard loud and clear from our users is that they want to hear what
the AMG editors’ opinions are, what they’re listening to, what they
recommend, etc. So, we’ll be bringing you regular features that will
give you the AMG take on the world of music. Wonder what albums AMG
Editor Stephen Thomas Erlewine would take to a desert island? Interested
in hearing what the AMG editors think are the best releases from the
last three months? Want to know what’s in AMG Contributor Richie
Unterberger’s player? Tune in and get the AMG view.

No mention of Ned! Burn!

christhamrin (christhamrin), Thursday, 3 June 2004 16:10 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd be flattered and all, but no, I haven't been contacted about that.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 3 June 2004 16:16 (twenty-one years ago)

i dont mind knowing what ned is listening to, but if there is a God, please leave the world ignorant to what Unterberger is playing and what he thinks about it.

jack cole (jackcole), Thursday, 3 June 2004 16:18 (twenty-one years ago)

I should also note that I am not an AMG editor in the first place, so.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 3 June 2004 16:19 (twenty-one years ago)

well dammit then, you should be -- it would make it far more interesting.

jack cole (jackcole), Thursday, 3 June 2004 16:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Ah, to be an editor I'd have to be on site full time, for a start. ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 3 June 2004 16:25 (twenty-one years ago)

three weeks pass...
update. what do you think about this new advanced search?

tom cleveland (tom cleveland), Friday, 25 June 2004 21:44 (twenty-one years ago)

i may be dense, but is there a secret knock to unlock the advance search?

nothingleft (nothingleft), Friday, 25 June 2004 21:56 (twenty-one years ago)

its not actualyl here yet. they just sent an email out describing it. maybe ill actually provide that information soon.

tom cleveland (tom cleveland), Saturday, 26 June 2004 02:39 (twenty-one years ago)

five years pass...

anyone on the inside knows whether an iphone app is in the works? I use AMG pretty often when record shopping but all the flash stuff and frames make it incredibly slow to load.
