I like to listen to this track and figure out which artists appear in it. Although I was already into music at the time, I find it rather to name more than a few? Can anyone tell me?

Same for "Do they know it's Christmas" by the way...

fuck, lindsey buckingham was on this! i'm going to have to give the man a severe reprimand...

"Do They Know It's Christmas" had various Culture Club, Duran Duran, Spandau Ballet, Bananarama, Status Quo, Ultravox, Boomtown Rats and Kool & the Gang people plus Paul Weller, Paul Young, Sting, Bono, Adam Clayton, Phil Collins, Jody Watley and not forgetting Marilyn. B-side included messages from those unable to attend the session - Bowie, McCartney, Big Country and Holly "I can't do the laugh right Bob" Johnson.

It's extraordinary what you can find on this new-fangled "Interweb" thingummy, if you use one of these wonderful "Search Engine" doo-dahs.

ah yes, forgot about heaven 17 (martyn ware he was the only one there whom weller persuaded to participate in the council collective "soul deep" miners' benefit single).

the human league famously refused to appear on "do they know it's christmas" because only phil oakey had been invited to take part, as opposed to the whole band.

Okay, but who was on the "What's Goin' On" thing a year or so back? I clearly recall Durst having a hand...

I remember Bono, Wyclef and those N'Synchers.

My favorite solo spot in "We Are the World" is Kim Carnes:

"When we"

Bravo, Kim!

There was one celebrity benefit song for the troops in the Gulf War, "Voices that Care". I think Fred Savage was in it. We actually learned the words and music in school.

In third grade to be precise, the song had come out and we had to learn it and sing it in class.

Anyone remember Hands Across America?

Joe (Joe), Friday, 4 June 2004 01:03 (twenty years ago) link

Okay, I've got one for you. Who was on the "King Holiday" single to celebrate MLK day in the USA? I had the single at one point, but I can't even remember. The chorus was "It's a King holiday, sing, sing, celebrate!" There were rappers on it. Maybe even Kool Moe Dee.

I can't believe I'm the only one wondering what exactly Waylon Jennings objected to in the lyrics. But good for him! That song is crapola start to finish

I always think Stevie Wonder is Elton John on that track, for some reason
