Anybody know what the set list is for the upcoming Van Halen Tour?

cw28 (cw28), Friday, 4 June 2004 16:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Any leaks on this? I'm interested to see how much old stuff they'll do.

cw28 (cw28), Friday, 4 June 2004 16:38 (twenty-one years ago)

I dunno, but these pictures are ridiculous.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Friday, 4 June 2004 16:41 (twenty-one years ago)

I kind of like Eddie's new look, but damn Hagar ... why all the dessert?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 4 June 2004 16:44 (twenty-one years ago)

YESS!!!

57 7th (calstars), Friday, 4 June 2004 16:46 (twenty-one years ago)

It's a fucking VAN HAGAR tour. Nothing good can come of this.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 4 June 2004 16:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Love the sandals Sam

57 7th (calstars), Friday, 4 June 2004 16:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Hagar looks like a home healthcare worker. Either that, or a mental patient on the loose.

Who looks exactly the same now as he did 25 years ago? Michael Anthony. That guy's frozen in time.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Friday, 4 June 2004 16:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, he's too sweet.

deanomgwtf!!!p%3Fmsgid%3D4581997 (deangulberry), Friday, 4 June 2004 16:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Hagar looks like a home healthcare worker. Either that, or a mental patient on the loose.

He looks like that dude who fronted Life, Sex and Death.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 4 June 2004 16:50 (twenty-one years ago)

I found a 90 second sample of the new single here (mp3). It starts off like nu-metal AC/DC until Hagar comes in.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Friday, 4 June 2004 17:03 (twenty-one years ago)

eddie looks like a complete douchebag. he also might be the most sour old man in rock n roll. jesus him and alex ooze evil.

i bet michael anthony is really a nice guy and fun to drink with.

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Friday, 4 June 2004 17:04 (twenty-one years ago)

The story of Eddie drunkenly making a fool of himself at a Nirvana aftershow party somewhere, apparently trying to seem down with the kids or something by telling Kurt how cool and great and all that Nirvana was, is both sad and telling.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 4 June 2004 17:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Sammys bounce!

dave225 (Dave225), Friday, 4 June 2004 17:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Is that a current pic? Jezum Crowe! What's up with Eddie's hair?

Who would have thought that as years went by, Michael Anthony would remain the best looking/least-damaged-by-the-passage-of-time.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 4 June 2004 18:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Sammy looks like Tony Clifton.

deanomgwtf!!!p%3Fmsgid%3D4581997 (deangulberry), Friday, 4 June 2004 18:56 (twenty-one years ago)

HA!

I will pay $20 for that.

deanomgwtf!!!p%3Fmsgid%3D4581997 (deangulberry), Friday, 4 June 2004 19:07 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd pay $20 for Wolfgang to stay backstage.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Friday, 4 June 2004 19:08 (twenty-one years ago)

I was just thinking the same thing. Poor kid.

mcd (mcd), Friday, 4 June 2004 19:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Eddie looks like a GI Joe figure

57 7th (calstars), Friday, 4 June 2004 19:17 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd pay more than $20 to leave.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 4 June 2004 19:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Eagles Fly (Sammy Solo Acoustic)
Deeper Kinda Love (Sammy Solo Acoustic)

The words "Sammy Solo Acoustic" crush my very soul.

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Friday, 4 June 2004 19:27 (twenty-one years ago)

"Guys, I won't do it unless you let me play 'Eagles Fly' solo." - SH

mcd (mcd), Friday, 4 June 2004 19:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Eddie Van looks like Flea, twenty years into the future, high on meds.

My name is Kenny (My name is Kenny), Friday, 4 June 2004 19:30 (twenty-one years ago)

At least they're not being forced into "I Can't Drive 55" (although, I wouldn't mind a little bit of "Give to Live").

I wish they could have worked things out with DLR. Oh, how I wish!

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Friday, 4 June 2004 19:33 (twenty-one years ago)

also, why the fuck close the show with "When It's Love?" that song blows, you need to close with a rocker!

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Friday, 4 June 2004 19:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Close with Unchained. It should be law.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Friday, 4 June 2004 19:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Eagles Fly (Sammy Solo Acoustic)
Deeper Kinda Love (Sammy Solo Acoustic)

That's when Eddie, Alex and Mike go backstage to make their groupie home videos.

57 7th (calstars), Friday, 4 June 2004 19:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Ah, these fellas don't have groupies anymore.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Friday, 4 June 2004 19:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Not GOOD groupies, at least.

My name is Kenny (My name is Kenny), Friday, 4 June 2004 19:42 (twenty-one years ago)

What a shitty setlist. It should be -

Spanish Fly
Intruder
Sunday Afternoon in the Park
Heavy Metal
Cathedral
Tora Tora
the 'Farm Aid' rap
the 'Ayatollah' rap
Michael Anthony falling over
What a Fool Believes

dave q, Friday, 4 June 2004 19:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Close with Unchained. It should be law.

YES! And for ALL bands, not just Van Halen.

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Friday, 4 June 2004 20:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Dave Q speaks so much wisdom.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 4 June 2004 20:16 (twenty-one years ago)

this thread is fuckin painful. I'm baffled when people write off David Lee Roth and praise the rest of these clowns.

Shakey Mo Collier, Friday, 4 June 2004 20:17 (twenty-one years ago)

who writes off DLR??? he's the king

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Friday, 4 June 2004 20:18 (twenty-one years ago)

People elsewhere than here, Matt.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 4 June 2004 20:19 (twenty-one years ago)

i don't like those people.

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Friday, 4 June 2004 20:20 (twenty-one years ago)

people like my wife's boss, who is actually excited to see them on this tour. Or people I got into an argument with at this BBQ last weekend who didn't think that David Lee Roth was "smart enough" to write his own biography.

Shakey Mo Collier, Friday, 4 June 2004 20:22 (twenty-one years ago)

who didn't think that David Lee Roth was "smart enough" to write his own biography.

man crazy from the heat is the shit....some straight up fucking avant garde stream of consciousness! one of the most entertaining celeb bios ever! (and clearly not ghost written either)

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Friday, 4 June 2004 20:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Seconded.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 4 June 2004 20:26 (twenty-one years ago)

I tried to explain that there was no way that book had been ghost-written - it reads like it was just dictated straight into a tape recorder! - but I was the only person there who had read it. He was the soul of the band, as these crappy photos (and even crappier setlist) clearly attest...

Shakey Mo Collier, Friday, 4 June 2004 20:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Just because Dave has a midget fetish, gets arrested for trying to buy pot in Washington Square Park, and guest stars as himself on the Sopranos, doesn't make him unable to convey his story with pathos in _Crazy From the Heat_, an excellent read.

57 7th (calstars), Friday, 4 June 2004 20:29 (twenty-one years ago)

granted DLR looks a tad Crypt Keeper these days, but he's not half as embarassing as that wet mop currently piled on top of Eddie's head.

Shakey Mo Collier, Friday, 4 June 2004 20:29 (twenty-one years ago)

That's not a wet mop - that's a Monchichi.

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 4 June 2004 20:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Real audio stream of the full song here. I was convinced this would have been a great instrumental track (which I probably what VH should have made) until it got to the solo. For this to be EVH's first recorded solo in six years, talk about your anti-climax.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Saturday, 5 June 2004 13:51 (twenty-one years ago)

"which IS probably what VH should have made"

To expand on this idea further, WHY didn't they choose to make a new album full of instrumentals instead of hiring Hagar back? Dammit.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Saturday, 5 June 2004 13:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Are this truely awful band still selling in America? Ha ha.

C-Man (C-Man), Saturday, 5 June 2004 13:54 (twenty-one years ago)

That remains to be, C-Man. As far as I know, none of the reunion show dates have sold out.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Saturday, 5 June 2004 13:56 (twenty-one years ago)

"Poundcake" is the shit.

Al (sitcom), Saturday, 5 June 2004 14:12 (twenty-one years ago)

There is an unnecessary article in that sentence.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 5 June 2004 14:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Shit, Ned beat me to the smartass answer, dang it all.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Sunday, 6 June 2004 14:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Reuters has 2 minutes of video from the rehearsal

ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

Elvis Telecom (Chris Barrus), Sunday, 6 June 2004 19:28 (twenty-one years ago)

two weeks pass...
According to VHND.net, this has been the core set list of shows already played with a few variances noted at the bottom:

Jump
Runaround
A quick Who tribue with a moment from "My Generation"
Humans Being
Up For Breakfast
Mikey's Solo
Somebody Get Me A Doctor
Poundcake
It's About Time
Al's Solo
Top Of The World
Unchained
Why Can't This Be Love?
Sammy's Solo - Eagles Fly/Deeper Kind Of Love
Learning To See
Best Of Both Worlds
Eddie's Solo
Dreams
Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love
Right Now

Encore:
You Really Got Me
Panama
When It's Love

In the last couple of shows "Runnin' With The Devil" has supplanted "Somebody Get Me A Doctor", "The Seventh Seal" has replaced "Learning To See" and Sam has and played "Eagles Fly" in its entirety in lieu of "Deeper Kind Of Love". There are even reports that they have been working up "I'm The One" at the soundchecks!

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Fucking "Somebody Get Me a Doctor?!" Even with Sammy singing, it's hard to ruin that song.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Monday, 21 June 2004 17:47 (twenty-one years ago)

I heard that Mike was singing "Doctor". Even better.

mcd (mcd), Monday, 21 June 2004 19:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Looking at that band picture above, is there really that much delay between Sammy's singing and the video monitor?

Pleasant Plains (Pleasant Plains), Monday, 21 June 2004 19:40 (twenty-one years ago)
