I guess this is the only thread we've got on this band? Picked up their most recent two albums at Reckless the other night and wondering why I hadn't found them sooner. Loving this stuff. I'm reading now that this lineup is quite a bit different (new vocalist, etc), is their earlier work worth tracking down?

Yes indeed. But they are best experienced as the force of nature they are live.

Another thing I've been reading! I see that they were opening for Rangda on that tour, another reason to be sad for missing it.

from what I understand they closed down the twisted village shop? armageddon records is taking the space over.

If memory serves, Kate & Wayne are keeping Twisted Village going but only as an online shop.
Seconding Ned... Major Stars live show is very u & k.
After seeing them again at the last Terrastock, I made up a Major Stars drinking game: drink once whenever Kate or Wayne's guitar heroics causes them to fall over on stage, drink twice if it's simultaneous, etc.

oh hell yes. tell you the truth, i prefer it to what they're doing now, but it's not like there's a huge drop in quality. just a shift in emphasis. S: distant effects and major stars 4. they also did a live split thing with comets on fire at around the same time that's very much worth the hunt (their side feats one track each from the two LPs i mentioned). and if you like what you find, it's only a short hop to magic hour, vermonster and crystallized movements, similar bands w/ wayne & kate going back to the 80s.

this wideness comes by the crystalized movements is a lost classic

yeah, totally! criminally overlooked and so damn great. never understood why the SY/dino jr. crowd didn't fall in line. the follow-up, revelations from pandemonium is just as good, maybe even less well known.
plus yeah, one 'l' in crystalized duh

Thanks for the recommendations!

haha! (new song is pretty killer)
Do you ever want to hear another rock guitar solo again? That's where the fight began. Robin played a song with a lot of guitar wankery by the band Major Stars. He loved it and I frankly couldn't wait for it to end. It got me wondering: Is this sort of music even relevant in 2016?
But there are lots of other sounds on this week's show, including a song from a favorite new album of mine by a band that certainly has the most adorable name: Cuddle Magic. It's a spare bit of electronic pop inspired by music from Ghana. It leans somewhere between Sylvan Esso and the Postal Service.
