it is more important to represent for one's friend who is in prison, or is a constant awareness of 'What time it is' more significant?

Remember that the various times on Flava's clocks were to represent his different moods, whilst I don't believe Nelly ever employed any variation with the positions of his plasters.

A true story about Flav and his clock:

The year before last, I was at the Rock The Vote awards, standing at the red carpet area along with several reporters. I was next to an exceedingly ditzy woman from Entertainment Tonight who was asking the most vapid questions to everyone.

Flav was one of the last people to come through -- invited, no doubt, because Chuck D was receiving a Founders' Award. He was wearing a huge clock with the numbers going in reverse order. "I got this clock from Scotland," he explained to the ET rep. "As you can see, it runs backwards."

"Why does it run backwards?" she asked earnestly.

Flav paused for a second. "Because it's from Scotland."

Blink. Blink. Blink.

Haha! That's what she gets for asking that.

I thought he had such a preponderance of timepieces so he could cross reference them, in order that he get the most accurate possible picture of what time it is.
