I just saw him interviewed on VH-1, and he said his solo album will be like "Creed meets Zeppelin meets the Doors, with thump."

To paraphrase Xgau's '70s book Boston review: Gosh.

Josh in Chicago (Josh in Chicago), Wednesday, 9 June 2004 13:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Please please please Lord Jesus let this album feature a cover of "In League With Satan" k thx bye

J0hn Darn1elle (J0hn Darn1elle), Wednesday, 9 June 2004 13:40 (twenty-one years ago)

To paraphrase Xgau's '70s book ELP review: I can almost hear the gism dripping from the microphone.

dave225 (Dave225), Wednesday, 9 June 2004 13:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Who wants my ears? I'm not going to need them anymore.

Join rocksbackpages and read the Mike Saunders review of America's Homecoming.

Chris Ott (Chris Ott), Wednesday, 9 June 2004 13:42 (twenty-one years ago)

the secret's in the "thump", you know

woly boly (woly boly), Wednesday, 9 June 2004 13:44 (twenty-one years ago)

With Bathory now needing a front man, I predict a short life for Stapp's solo career.

briania (briania), Wednesday, 9 June 2004 13:48 (twenty-one years ago)

No, I disagree. He's a good vocalist, but the other guys were keeping him back. I think his solo stuff will actually be pretty good.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 9 June 2004 13:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, so right.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Wednesday, 9 June 2004 13:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Creed Meets Zeppelin and the Doors?

so now he wants to sound like an even worse version of The Tea Party?

Andrzej B. (Andrzej B.), Wednesday, 9 June 2004 14:24 (twenty-one years ago)

"Creed meets Zeppelin meets the Doors, with thump."

Oh good. `Cos, y'know, we need that, don't we. Not enough people mining the fertile, verdant ground planted by Zep & the Doors.

YAWN

Waitaminute, wasn't he working with some hip hop producer like Jermaine Dupree (sp?) or someone?

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 9 June 2004 14:26 (twenty-one years ago)

so now he wants to sound like an even worse version of The Tea Party?

Who estimated that such a thing was possible?

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Wednesday, 9 June 2004 14:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Waitaminute, wasn't he working with some hip hop producer like Jermaine Dupree (sp?) or someone?

7 Aurelius, who I went to high school with.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 9 June 2004 14:49 (twenty-one years ago)

You folks are forgetting the "thump", dammit.

woly boly (woly boly), Wednesday, 9 June 2004 14:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Is "thump" some sort've hip hop lingo? School me.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 9 June 2004 14:52 (twenty-one years ago)

The Tea Party are his new backing band. Be afraider.

Simon H., Wednesday, 9 June 2004 15:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, I'm more interested in the "thump" than anything else.

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Wednesday, 9 June 2004 16:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Has Stapp turned into Bela Fleck's bassist?

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Wednesday, 9 June 2004 16:19 (twenty-one years ago)

evidently you fuckas didn't hear that he's working with 7 Aurelius.

I ain't lyin'.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Wednesday, 9 June 2004 21:09 (twenty-one years ago)

woops, missed Nickalicious' post. My bad.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Wednesday, 9 June 2004 21:09 (twenty-one years ago)

I have no idea what "thump" is in this context, but it seems important to the Scott Stapp solo sound.

xpost?!?

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Friday, 11 June 2004 14:18 (twenty-one years ago)

sorry, my mistake

woly boly (woly boly), Friday, 11 June 2004 14:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Less "thump", more "snikt" and "bamf" and "KRAKATOOOOOOM" please.

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 11 June 2004 14:27 (twenty-one years ago)

one month passes...
AW YEAH.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 6 August 2004 14:52 (twenty-one years ago)

However, his love for Jesus does not mesh with a love for nature (apparently there's this water shortage in Orlando and the TV news has decided to name and shame based on the public records).

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 6 August 2004 17:38 (twenty-one years ago)

it all went into that video...

||amateur!st|| (amateurist), Friday, 6 August 2004 17:40 (twenty-one years ago)

"Relearn Love" is one of the most awkward titles I've ever heard.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 6 August 2004 17:41 (twenty-one years ago)

It sounds like a Dream Theater song title

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Friday, 6 August 2004 18:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Dream Theater ft. Scott Stapp "Relearning Love Under An Apache Moon"

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 6 August 2004 18:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Relearn Love sounds like an awful Susan Powter self-help tape.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 6 August 2004 18:11 (twenty-one years ago)

"Part 2"

(x-post)

Vinnie (vprabhu), Friday, 6 August 2004 18:11 (twenty-one years ago)

the thump means it's going to be him singing and playing some major rock chords fluff with the a sample of a breakbeat/hip hop beat going on. so it's like a led zep meets prodigy thing.

vinnie bobereeno (vinnie bobereeno), Friday, 6 August 2004 18:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Ah,...so it'll be derivative, irrelevant and dated sounding. Excellent.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 6 August 2004 18:19 (twenty-one years ago)

has anyone seen Scott Stapp
http://www.courttv.com/graphics/photos/people/lede/stapp-creed-people-042203.jpg
and Dan Cortese
http://stephan.lanribeiro.free.fr/DanCortese.jpg
in the same room?

I think the funniest Creed moment was when I saw part of their live performance on a Sat. morn sports t.v. show. It was basically them in the t.v. studio playing "Can You Take Me Higher" with football highlights from various games edited in like some jock's music video wet dream.

Joseph Pot (STINKORâ„¢), Friday, 6 August 2004 20:29 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd feel sorry for the rest of Creed, who have some Van Hagar type thing coming out even sooner and have been totally ignored on ILX, except they're the rest of Creed.

btw... fuck Pearl Jam, Rattle And Humera U2 - anything Eno would approve of = Creed.

CeCe Peniston (Anthony Miccio), Friday, 6 August 2004 22:43 (twenty-one years ago)

I saw the video for "Where The Streets Have No Name" recently and it was so Creed it was scary.

CeCe Peniston (Anthony Miccio), Friday, 6 August 2004 22:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Stapp has always admitted the U2 fascination -- in fact the first story I ever read about them had him going on about how apparently his dad gave him shit for listening to such an obviously Satanic record as The Joshua Tree.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 6 August 2004 23:02 (twenty-one years ago)

obviously Satanic

Bahahahahaha

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 6 August 2004 23:16 (twenty-one years ago)

That song title's not as awkward as, yet seems clearly derived/unintentionally hijacked from, the Beach Boys' "Never Learn Not To Love," which was, IIRC, the title they slapped on their version of Charles Manson's "Look At Your Game Girl."

pdf (Phil Freeman), Saturday, 7 August 2004 22:05 (twenty-one years ago)

"Look at Your Game Girl," however, is a great title. Seriously.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 7 August 2004 23:26 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah it is

roger adultery (roger adultery), Sunday, 8 August 2004 01:49 (twenty-one years ago)

whatever happened to this?

Aerodynamic (Aerodynamic), Tuesday, 26 April 2005 21:39 (twenty years ago)

six months pass...
Here's what happened.

If you can, watch the interview. Words are said that will haunt your soul forever.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 17 November 2005 02:14 (twenty years ago)

"once you hear [The Great Divide] you are going to feel more sensuality in parts...of the music"

i really thought he was going to say something else

"if these radio programmers would just give me a break"

it was called the late 90's. and it was a magical time for all of us.

JD from CDepot, Thursday, 17 November 2005 02:31 (twenty years ago)

thank you so much for making me laugh out loud.

that performance of 'surround me' is powerful stuff indeed.

just loving the fact that its out on 'Wind Up Records'.

marcus (d90), Thursday, 17 November 2005 13:12 (twenty years ago)

That was always his label, so no change there.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 17 November 2005 13:16 (twenty years ago)

...and did he say "my son Jaguar" ???

marcus (d90), Thursday, 17 November 2005 13:19 (twenty years ago)

his voice is shittier than ever. way to go Stapp.

amon (eman), Thursday, 17 November 2005 14:00 (twenty years ago)

his son is named Jagger, i believe

JD from CDepot, Thursday, 17 November 2005 14:09 (twenty years ago)

Son: Jagger Michael Stapp (b. 1998)

....heheheheheheh

marcus (d90), Thursday, 17 November 2005 14:12 (twenty years ago)

I just heard the single the other day. It's entirely indistinguishable from Creed. What happened to that fabled "thump"?

The video is ridiculous as well, surprise!

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 17 November 2005 14:19 (twenty years ago)

the lack of thump is indeed heartbreaking. these songs are awful.

'Twan (miccio), Thursday, 17 November 2005 16:47 (twenty years ago)

i'd settle for him getting a disabling thump in the throat region.

amon (eman), Thursday, 17 November 2005 16:55 (twenty years ago)

two months pass...
"The Rick meets Zeppelin meets the Doors, with thump."

Edward Bax (EdBax), Friday, 20 January 2006 02:48 (nineteen years ago)

i decided that i like scott stapp as an idea after i read the article about him in the new rolling stone. i mean, he out lizard-kings Jim Morrison, and still thinks he's being earnest.

JD from CDepot, Friday, 20 January 2006 05:09 (nineteen years ago)

I just spent like 5 minutes looking at this thread thinking it was talking about Scott STORCH's solo debut. Which would be really interesting if it sounded like how this was described.

Eppy (Eppy), Friday, 20 January 2006 05:11 (nineteen years ago)

Scott Storch would (and does!) bring the thump. Maybe they can make an album together as Scott 2 Scott.

Zwan (miccio), Friday, 20 January 2006 05:57 (nineteen years ago)

Great Scott!

latebloomer: virtuous, pure and masculine like only an American male can be (lat, Friday, 20 January 2006 08:45 (nineteen years ago)

That's a good idea. They could film all the videos on the Storchavelli.

Eppy (Eppy), Friday, 20 January 2006 14:22 (nineteen years ago)

three weeks pass...
The Rick sez: "It's good to be the king!"
