been a while since I played "Bleach" and I probably love it even more now than I did then (which was a lot).
"Blew" through "School" is a pretty solid run. altho the lyrics to Floyd the Barber are still hella wtf.

probably "ugh!"

Krist is a Trump supporter?
Nirvana's Krist Novoselic praised Donald Trump for his "strong and direct" law and order speech: "He knocked it out of the park" https://t.co/boeyqahlvO pic.twitter.com/xy8ID2xCeO— Consequence of Sound (@consequence) June 2, 2020
At first I thought he was being sarcastic, but ... doesn't seem so. And then when he was called out he apparently deleted his accounts.
― Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 2 June 2020 22:50 (five years ago)
I went to some thing on campus once where krist, jello biafra and Julia butterfly hill were giving speeches. Krist started whining about graffiti and property owners’ rights and everybody started booing him it was great.

Lots of people in that early 90s MTV milieu have been full-on libertarian for years. It's disconcerting.
― Sam Weller, Wednesday, 3 June 2020 13:37 (five years ago)
As someone else posted, who would have guessed a guy from Nirvana would one day be a Trump supporter but arch nemesis Axl Rose would apparently be a righteously outspoken critic?
― Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 3 June 2020 13:40 (five years ago)
did kurt loder convert them all?xp
― mizzell, Wednesday, 3 June 2020 13:53 (five years ago)
Ha, yes I think he converted Kennedy. And it seems like all of my favorite bands from the time had at least one (Krist, Corgan, etc.).
― Sam Weller, Wednesday, 3 June 2020 13:56 (five years ago)
Novoselic has been known to be a right-libertarian for a while, hasn't he? In the 90s, I'm not sure I ever associated the bassist from Nirvana with any ideological stance but, yeah, "One in a Million" did lead me to expect less from Rose.

I do believe Axl has actually worked on himself!
― Blues Guitar Solo Heatmap (Free Download) (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Wednesday, 3 June 2020 14:34 (five years ago)
It's been a weird evolution for Novoselic. He was originally going to run as a Democrat when he talked about running for Lieutenant Governor back in 2004 and he publicly supported Obama's first election, but then he shifted more into Libertarian ideals around the same time and I guess is now a full-blown Trumper.

I do believe Axl has actually worked on himself!Have there been any articles exploring Axl’s political “development”? It fascinates me. I have a few theories of what’s behind it, based on the little I do know about him, but wonder if someone has talked to people who know him, etc.?
― Charging for Brewskis™ (morrisp), Wednesday, 3 June 2020 15:17 (five years ago)
ah good ole Uncle Thomas Sowell. i'm just glad he's retired and isn't chiming in right now. my dad has to look elsewhere for his bullshit opinions.
― andrew m., Wednesday, 3 June 2020 15:19 (five years ago)
i guess he's on twitter, but my dad is not. and he's not in his newspaper every damn week. anyway. carry on with the krist dragging!
― andrew m., Wednesday, 3 June 2020 15:22 (five years ago)
I always thought Axl was kind of inchoate in his anger. Despite the racist/sexist stuff, I'm not sure he was necessarily either of those things, just profoundly ignorant in the literal sense. I do feel there was some sort of a switch from angry to reclusive/eccentric to somewhat seemingly at peace. Chalk it up to therapy?
― Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 3 June 2020 15:51 (five years ago)
As much as I do enjoy seeing Axl outspoken for good causes now, I have to wonder just how many folks holding him up as a woke paragon right now recall (or even know about) the stories of the awful shit the band did to women back when.
I'm guessing in about 3-4 months, someone will link to that Medium article about Hell House on Twitter and he'll be canceled again.
― soaring skrrrtpeggios (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Wednesday, 3 June 2020 15:56 (five years ago)
Not that I'm anti personal growth here, but considering Twitter's fascination with digging up old news to drag and cancel people for, I'm surprised it hasn't hit him yet.
― soaring skrrrtpeggios (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Wednesday, 3 June 2020 16:01 (five years ago)
I didn't think many young ppl necessarily knew or cared about him. I figured his tweets were mainly of interest to ppl like me, who grew up with Axl and G'n'R as a cultural force.
― Charging for Brewskis™ (morrisp), Wednesday, 3 June 2020 16:04 (five years ago)
Even Chinese Democracy is 12 years old at this point, and no one gave a shit about that. Anyone that cares at all about anything Axl has to say, or for that matter even knows who he is, is doing so based on the band's 1987-1993 heyday/notoriety, which in turn could be why anything that comes from him currently that runs counter to that reputation strikes such a conspicuous chord.

I taught "Sweet Child o' Mine" last night to a 12yo who wanted to learn it.
― Feel a million filaments (Sund4r), Wednesday, 3 June 2020 16:13 (five years ago)
Interestingly enough, my own guitar teacher has cited GNR as a band that for a couple of years every student brought to him, but which no one asks him about anymore. I guess Sweet Child has been covered a lot, though.

So Novoselic apparently describes himself as an 'anarcho-capitalist socialist moderate I-don’t know'. That's a long-winded way of saying 'Trumpster'.
― pomenitul, Wednesday, 3 June 2020 19:14 (five years ago)
I own a copy of Of Grunge and Government, which IIRC was pub'd thru/via Danny Goldberg, who of course is a great lefty. Actually read it. There was a time when N was talking Grange/rural politics, and new voting systems. But somewhere along the line he got so alienated from the 2-party system that he went into wacko libertarian land. Freshman year contrarianism. Buzz is the same way, sadly.

I'm not saying anything excuses anything Axl did or wrote in the day, but I think viewing him as a victim of sexual and physical abuse is part of the story
― Blues Guitar Solo Heatmap (Free Download) (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Wednesday, 3 June 2020 20:11 (five years ago)
^That actually does factor (in part) into my "theorizing."
― Charging for Brewskis™ (morrisp), Wednesday, 3 June 2020 20:50 (five years ago)
I didn't know Novoselic had gone in that direction, but I guess we got a hint of it in the tongue-in-cheek remarks made at the beginning of this clip (I guess the higher taxation he now faced really DID bother him that much):https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K7ZvG7pemuM
